You will get a Black Sex Link if the father is a Rhode lsland Red, New Hampshire Red, or Production Red. The newly hatched male chicks will be black with a white spot on top of their heads and the female chicks will be solid black.

I have a little black chick with a white spot on it's head. It's underbelly is black and yellow blended. It also has a black strip across it's beak. Does this sound like one of these chicks? It came from CA in an egg swap so I don't know for sure what all chickens she has. Thanks.

Does it look like these in the picture below? If so it's either a Black Sex Link male chick or a Barred Rock chick (either sex). The BSL male chicks and BR chicks (both sexes) look alike.
