I tried to "feather sex" my chicks like they do in the hatcheries, and I only have one hen out of two chickens.

That doesn't make for much of a laying flock, and we wanted laying hens.

Rule Of Hatching #1: Do NOT expect a laying flock!!! *sigh*

I guess we need more chicks.

feather sexing only works with certain breeds/strains, are you sure yours are feather sexable? you started with only 2 unsexed chicks and were hoping for a laying flock? even if both were girls thats not much of a flock

you need to grow out many more to hope for a few girls

LOL .. If you want a lying flock having a Cock and a Hen is a very good start

... 2 hens would only stay the same at least with a Cockerel you have the potential to make a bigger flock ..

Could be worse though, You could have 2 boys

The roo is very fiesty too. The girl lets me pick her up, but the boy shrilly peeps and kicks, climbs up on my hand, and jumps.

I'm also worried the girl is a Cornish.
