My poor elder son has bad teeth, soft and prone to decay. He had a crown and a spacer by kindergarten due to absesses. The visit after he had the sealants put on he had a cavity in an adult tooth; it had a flaw in it, a crack that ran down below the level of the enamel. My other son has never had a cavity. They have the same food, water, genetics and brushing habits. Luckily, the big one likes the dentist. I do have a fairly aggressive pediatric dentist; when my younger son's adult teeth on the bottom were coming in behind the baby teeth, and my son wasn't pulling the baby teeth, the dentist recomended pulling the three remaining baby teeth and shaving down two more. I said...."uh, I prefer to take a more conservative approach". Two weeks later two of the baby teeth were gone and the last one will come out this week.
I think some of it is just luck of the draw for what you get for teeth. So it is also with ham handed dentists.
Remember the old time flouride treatments? The ones they filled with pink "cherry flavored" goo, then stuck so far back in your mouth that you were gagging, then made you stand there over the sink for 10 minutes (or lifetimes)??? I think that might be the sole cause of my dental anxiety.
