Seems I am the only one in the family, both parents and my brother have bad teeth and they brush and brush,, Well my mom did and finaly gave up and got dentures....
Talk about good teeth... my grandpa on my moms side grew up in China. Didn't have what we call a toothbrush for the first 35 years or so of his life, smoked daily from his mid teens till late 40's, was a doctor of all things, and to this day, at 80 or so, not one cavity, all his original teeth, and only thing to show for smoking for the first half of his life is a acute cough. Genetics, you either got it or don't.
My best friend in high school was a twin. His mother and twin sister brushed all of the time and had mouths full of fillings. He and his father seldom brushed and neither had a cavity.
Quote: I see lots of kids. (Got an award for treating kids in Dental School) I won't treat them unless a parent (or sometimes a grandparent) is in the room.
If they can't settle down on their own with the N2O, then we reappoint until they do.
I am finding that a lot of parenting is trial and error! I wish I had known then what I do now and that never would have happened.
We switched dentists to a non-ped dentist and she is so wonderful both my kids love her (it took 3 visits before my now-5 year old would let them clean her teeth, but we are back in business). The first time my youngest went, big sister said "Don't worry Rhiannon, you are going to my nice dentist, not the creepy one."
I've had more dental work than anyone I know. At 4 yrs. old they pulled all my teeth and put in falsies
This caused my jaws not to delevop correctly when the adult teeth grew in so now I have the 2 molars low and up that meet on each side and that's it. Two of them need to be pulled, one is a silver cap I've had since I was 12. It was a temporary cap with a whole in it. Last time I went to the dentist he did a root canal on the back tooth and then pulled the cap off, cleaned it out, and fixed the whole I had wore in it.
I had never been in pain as bad as I was a week after having that root canal. I go back to the dentist and he charges me for an emergency visit
I was dying. It was worse then childbirthing and he wants to charge me. He tried to tell me that nothing was wrong.
