I H8 teh Dentist.

Just before I went to the dentist the last time I had to do some research about redheads. I had read about them slowing disappearing and wanted to read more about it.

One of the tidbits on the redhead website was that they had discovered redheads actually need more anesthesia than folks with other color of hair. Hmmm. I wondered.

So, just for the heck of it, when I was having a tooth pulled and the dentist couldn't understand why the novacaine wasn't kicking in, I told him what I'd read.

"I'd never heard of that."

"I know I don't look like a redhead, but I used to have auburn hair until I started having kids. Could it be that I need extra novacaine?"

"I doubt it." Tug tug, wince wince. When I still couldn't sit still, he broke down and gave me more.

A bit later, the tooth was out and he was telling me he was surprised the extra did the trick.

Yea, sure.

I'm not overly fond of dentists either. Hey Mahonri, how do you dental folk ever get married? Don't all your potential dates run away screaming when you tell them what you do? Or do you have to catch them young before you become a dentist?

Seriously, I had one dentist tell me I was the stillest patient he had ever had. The man was incredibly gentle, but I think my finger impressions are still in that chair. I sit still so the mean man in the white coat won't hurt me. I had alot of dental work as a kid, including a root canal on a front tooth, and repairs on two broken teeth and I think it is all just a holdover, but still; I have goose bumps on my spine just talking about it.

Ewww, I'm a dentists worst nightmare, except in the wallet. I had BAD experiences when I was a kid. When I got old enough, I just quit going. Ironicly, I went into dental assisting. So when I got my first job, my new boss said, lets clean those teeth. It had been almost 10 years. I had lots of tarter build up, above and below the gum line. Luckly for me, he numbed me up the first time. I had them cleaned every 3 months while I worked there. Then, the hygienest I worked with left, so did my job. I followed her twice to new locations but she left again and I don't know where she is now. Its been going on 3 years. I hate having my teeth cleaned!

Greyfields, you just have to find a dentist whose hands are the size of a catcher's mitt. Seriously, the 2 best, gentlest, most competent dentists I've ever had were ex-football-player sized guys with HUGE hands ("You're gonna stick that in my mouth?!) and slow speech patterns. The nastiest, most egotistical, sadistic twit I ever saw was a little weasel of a guy..... nuff said. But you still have to have confidence in the hygenist who does your cleaning, too. I've been lucky that I found my current doorway-filling dentist as soon as we moved here 16yr ago (and now I drive 1/2hr thru hell to go to his office!).

I don't hate dentists... I hate my defective amiloblasts. Teeth emerging with deep groves and even one with a hole all the way through the enamel. I have 32 adult teeth, 11 have been worked on, with more individual fillings on the sides, tops, or between than I am years old. Brush twice a day with my sonicare for 2-3 cycles so like 4-6 minutes, use a non alcohol based mouth wash, and when I go for a check up, ask "how many this time" rather than "is there any."

I went through a stage when I was terrified of going to the dentist, any dentist. It occured after an unfortunate wisdom tooth extraction done by a dentist who was becoming to ill with a chronic condition to continue working. I just didn't happen to know that at the time. I didn't go for about 4 years. When I moved out here I started going to a local dentist who was very patient and she got me back on track. She moved away and I tried two more dentists before I found one I'm comfortable with. Now I floss everyday, brush after every meal, etc. I actually look forward to my cleanings because they're quick and painless. I've had to have some of my old fillings replaced (I have a lot) and I love the way my teeth look with fewer metal fillings in them!
I guess this all leaves me seeing both sides of it.

I get physically ill when I have to go to the dentist, so I was very happy once my insurance ran out and I "couldn't" go anymore.

I think my aversion comes from the fact that I have sensitive teeth and gums, so getting my teeth-cleaned results in bleeding and pain on my part, and I've always been told to "suck it up" by my father.

I've had three teeth pulled in my life, all baby teeth because I refused to wiggle them~ The first two were when I was five, and I got Novacaine I believe. The third was when I was about ten, and they used some ring that had a numbing gel in it? I never knew what it was...

I'm 19 and I've never had a single cavity, *knocks on wood*, and I've been told I have beautiful teeth despite the fact I take pretty bad care of them. I brush them once a day if I remember (I don't get bad breath), and I NEVER EVER floss~

My sister, brother and mom have almost every tooth in their head filled...

I guess I inherited my good teeth from my dad?

I got laughing gas when I had to get something done to my mouth (I think it was teeth pulled) but I hated it afterward.

I don't have a dentist. One of my friends is a retired periodontist and
tells the best dirty jokes I've ever heard. I know a few younger perios
too that I have clean my teeth every so often. They clean around 3
inches under the gumline. Ouch.

People who work on teeth are a wierd bunch.
