I hate coyotes!!

Its not a typo and yes they honestly do guard the chickens. They wont let feral cats near them. The only time we have ever lost a chicken is when they were not guarding them. They walk the fence line and keep watch and if the see a feral/strange cat the chase it off and come back to the chickens. They sleep with them as well, they dont attempt to hurt them at all and i even have pictures of the cats with the chickens they dont care what the chickens do they just hang out with them and keep them safe whether or not you believe that is your problem. I have amazing cats, i have seen them attack another cat for harming one of the hens when it first started and they wont let any other cats near (with in 30 feet) the fence. I know it sounds odd but its true. We had a big tom cat that would take a hen on a daily basis and my husband and i got a few back from him but most were killed then our cats took over and i watch that black tom cat come near the fence and both our cats jumped the fence and attacked him. They allow cats to come and go on the dogs side but if they get near the chickens fence on anyside the attack them and run them off.

I'm calling BS on this. Yotes do not run in packs that large. It's rare you'll find more than half dozen running together. I have decades of coyote calling experience.

Very possibly a pair with fairly grown pups who haven't left yet. While we see singletons, friends who live where coyotes are more abundant see them in multiples. (There is a possibility some could be seeing coydogs, but whatever, they are out there and will take your poultry, if they can).

And i did not teach them this i think they took pitty on my lack of skills when it comes to scarying the feral cats and took over. I didnt expect them to or teach them to they choose to. We feed them with the hens since they seem to enjoy being over there we have a fence off section 1300sq feet of a area for the chickens to be in. The fence is as reinforced as we can afford to get and we still lost a hen about a month ago now when both our cats werent in the yard but we hadnt lost hens for five or more months so they werent concerned and since that attack they havent left the hens. And we havent lost anymore to what wver cat took one. I know it was a cat i found its prints and it is the only predator that comes close to the house we are surronded by open plowed fields(our family plows it to seed for grass that we feed the cows) there is no tree line or place to hide and have never had a problem with predators coming to the house, the only time we have lost hens has been to feral cat and our dogs.

My cats are less community oriented. My dog protects the cats and chickens by discouraging raccoons and whatnot from the property. My cats keep the smaller rodent pop down, keeping everyone healthier (and they kindly tolerate my girls giving them all sorts of love). My chickens give me eggs and cut the insect pop down considerably (I do not even mind when those birds get into my garden they did such a good job on the grasshoppers this year.) I make sure they all have enough food. We are one big happy farmhouse.

Dogs can't be killed by coyotes if they are not left out by themselves.  My dogs were never out without a human & never left to run at night. Always on a leash after dark.  Good luck getting rid of the coyotes.

Please please do not leave your small dogs out at night, those poor little guys would never have a chance. I live in a fenced in community in Nevada and coyotes scaled my neighbors wall at three in the morning, luckily she had her four dogs inside. They were out all night hunting in the neighborhood.

It is amazing how adaptable coyotes are. What kind of fence is it that they were able to scale it?

A block wall fence 6 feet high. Nevada wildlife tells me these guys come down from the hills via the drainage ditches going into neighborhoods. However, in defend of the coyote, urban development has built closer and closer into coyote territory.

Well coyote territory expanded when humans got rid of wolves. But yeah I know what you mean. I will take a pack of coyotes over a pack of wolves anyday, and as the ecosystem needs a predator, coyotes it is. But their population does need to be controlled.
But now scaling a 6 foot wall, that is impressive.

Oh for sure, very impressive!
They are crafty, sneaky varmants, but they have their purpose here on earth.
I'm expecting them any night now to be out roaming, my dog alerts me with her low growl around 2am.
