Some folks just ought to live in a bubble.

Oh, tell them to go suck an egg:lol:
Truth be known, it's probably one person in the neighborhood who has a problem with your "zoo". Obviously he/she doesn't have a list of neighbors or they would have placed their names on the letter. This is probably a person who complains about everyone and everything. Wouldn't be suprised if others have gotten letters from this annonymous cowardly jerk.
Check out your rights and then stick to it. Sounds like your closest neighbors are very supportive. I wouldn't let this jerk ruin my happiness.

I live in the same area I grew up in. When I was a kid it was very rural. We just got a new high scool and our schools are the best in the area. So now all these city people buy 1/2 to 5 acre lots and build their cookie cutter houses so it looks like a subdivision. Then they complain about tractors on the road and manure smells in the air while they are driving to work!

Edited to say I'm totally serious! There have been many letters to the editor on this subject in the little local paper!

We've lived in the same place for almost 6 years now, REALLY big deal considering dh and myself's gypsy lifestlye before this. We rent, but consider this our home and our neighborhood.
We love everyone around us and they are very cool with our chickens and are good ol' boys in the way that it should be, hunting, trapping, country life, etc. They trade veggies from the gardens that they have for what we have that they don't, and one neighbor gave us fresh venison for Christmas!

I'm almost afraid to move off of the land that we have, even though it's not enough to have everything we want. (Dh wants a cow in the WORST way.)
I'm afraid that if we move from here, we're going to have the same type of problems from the city people. It's already starting here, we have a McMansion down the road, and for sale signs on farmland that has been in families for generations now up for grabs.

It makes me very angry that people move and expect the world to revolve around THEM, not the other way around with respecting the people that were there for at least a few generations that have the history, the agriculture and the FARMING down to a science!!
We moved back home from living all over the US after being born here, I didn't care what I'd just come from, the simple, plain fact was that I was in the farming area, and if I didn't like what it smelled, tasted, or looked, like, too bad!!
I could move, and I wasn't about to make others feel badly about having livestock!
Let 'em complain! I'll take a tractor and livestock where it should be over subdivions where they shouldn't be anyday of the week!!

Don't let them get you down!!!

Right on baltimoreharps! I f I wanted to live in the suburbs I'd live there. For the life of me I don't understand why people move out here just to recreate the 'burbs with an hour commute. Their houses look ridiculous. No mature trees surrounded by cornfields or an identical lot.

You got THAT right sis!!!!

I feel like telling the stupid people that try to recreate a McMansion right NEXT to a cow paddock and then wonder WHY in the world it smells bad in thier perfect little 500'perfectly landscaped yard to go move back to the burbs!

I cannot after living out in the country, even go into a suburb without getting panicky.... and this is a girl that lived in Denver and Balto Inner City!

And before I go getting

by anyone that is a suburban BYC, I am NOT talking about you all!

I'm talking about the type the OP is referring to, and that is stupid that cannot be fixed without a LOT of help and commen sense, none of which seems to be found in the way the OP recieved a letter. The person that sent that lett fully deserves a

times a million!!

I'm going to get to bed to deal with my broody hen in the am and to try to fight off this insomnia!
Night all!

Unfortunately, you see that alot when city folks move to the country. They'd rather choke on exhaust fumes than smell nature and they'd rather hear people yelling and horns honking and engines roaring than a simple rooster crowing.
That was quite cowardly of them, to put an anonymous note in your box. All it does is make you feel bad and doesn't solve anything. If it was me, I'd print a copy of the zoning for your neighborhood, the animal ordinances if there are any, and a note from your vet on the observed condition of your animals. Then sit tight till you need them. Just watch that no one does anything to your property or animals-that'd worry me when things like this heat up.

ugh. i'm so sorry. if they don't have the guts to leave their name, i'd just ignore it. you know how your animals are treated and thats all that matters. they can have their own opinions, but you know the truth.
if i got a letter like that, i would be so mad! i only have two ducks at the moment, and we keep everything so clean! we have a storage area in their house where we keep all the tools and other duck related things when they are not being used so the sight does not annoy anyone. not like they can see it anyways...but okay. they don't smell at all! unless you go near their water they have both been making nice and dirty all day, other than that, they smell fine. all my neighbors love them and some people from the town walk by and sit and watch them play.
just ignore the note though. if they do call the town on you, then your chickens are perfectly taken care of and as you say, there is no extreme smell or flies. good luck.

I'm sorry you got that letter but it sounds like most of your neighbors are great... POOP on the other ones! You are in an AR area... if they didn't want animals around them THEY shouldn't have moved there. End of story. People that want neighborhood restrictions need a subdivision with a HOA or live in city limits... they're the ones that should move, not you!
