I can honestly say i DO NOT want another pekin as long as i live

I've heard story after story of how agressive they can be, even the hens.

I've had many pekins, and NONE of them have been friendly, no matter how much handling.

my "wifes" Pekin drake boris is nine months old now, and up until he was about 7 months has lived quite happily somewhere near the middle of the drake hierarchy.

BUT, he recently has taken to chasing after the little call drakes, grabbing them in his beak and tossing them around like ragdolls, or he drags them into the water and trys to drown them!

after breaking him off of one of the calls JUST this morning at about 7ish.

I went out just about 15 minutes ago to find this!

there are NO wounds, bites, anything other than the fact that he's been scalped and his back has more or less been picked clean, his eyes, I have no idea.

and the fact that no one else was hurt, and the pen is covered.

is there ANYTHING I can do??

or should I just let him do his own thing?, right now I've brought him in, and put in the bathub, cleaned him up with warm water, and now he's wrapped in a towl...

UGH, it's gonna be a GREAT day, and it's not even 11am!

Yeah there is something you can do....

Put down that blasted drake or sell it, or eat... GET RID OF IT!

We don't keep mean animals of any sort here at Pine Burrow Farm. He would have been dinner the first time he pulled that junk, no matter who was attached to him.

I have learned first hand, that agressive behaviors are very well learned behaviors. Meaning that one bird starts doing it, then before you know it, you're whole flock is doing it!

Nip it in the bud before it get MUCH worse.

I would use some saline to wash that duck, or soak him in it. Look online, you can make your own.

After I soaked him and made sure it was all clean, I would put some neosporin, especially on his head, poor dear.

The other thing you are probably running into, is that you may very well have too many drakes and not enough hens.

I never had agression amoungst my ducks, but I only kept ONE drake on EIGHT hens.

If you have calls for showing and breeding or whatnot, perhaps you should give them their own enclousure or cage them, for their safety.

I agree. There are so many NICE drakes out there (even peking). No reason to put up with a nasty one. Time for some crispy duck for diner.

the root cause, the one who started it all, in all Honesty was Big Lenny, another pekin I've been trying to rehome pretty much since I got him.

I WANT to free range the Heavy ducks, calls and runners and such soon, probably 24/7, with ofcouse some sort of housing to go into at night.

I am hoping that will help, because honestly (I know, kill ME) I don't have the heart to kill anything, though i have mulled over Lenny and the turkies..

I am going to go make a saline solution, and try to wipe him down with it, i'm just afraid of it hurting him

Poor little guy.

I had a pekin drake, and he'd even run down my hens! I just couldn't understand it. Someone on here told me that I had to many drakes, at the time I had 2, with one hen. Just recently, I lost my one drake Pekin, don't know what killed him, but my other little drake, which, by the way, did the same to my hens, had the same ailment as well. My daughter was able to bring him around, now everything is okay. I was told that Pekins are quite sexually aggressive, and to either get rid of him, or get more hens. I, like you, can't kill anything. Maybe someone you could give him to that lives close ? Just a suggestion. Best of luck.

Can you keep him in for now? As for the aggressors, cage them up together, separated from everyone else. THey are causing trouble. Try advertising them as meat ducks for a killer price on craigslist. Here we have a lot of asians. Ducks never last long.

poor baby duckie!!

however from your discription he wasnt being mean he was trying to breed them...even the drowning part, ive seen ducks mate in water it's not exactly pretty.

he's going to stay in for a while, either in the house, or in a cat carrier in the chick room, he's moving around bit better, but still shaking I wiped him down with the saline, just gotta find some neosporin
