I know you don't feel right killing him, but is it right to subject all your other ducks to being killed by him? If I had an animal that aggressive it would have to go-into solitary confinement if I had to keep it, rehomed, or else... I couldn't live with myself sitting on my hands and watching it hurt and maim other innocent creatures (and teaching them to be just as vicious). That is a chain reaction problem I'd really want to nip in the bud as fast as possible... can you put meanie in a dog crate or something to keep him from hurting the other ones?

Im so sorry about yur duck...
I have had pekins off and on and never had one d anything like that... My pekin drake i have now is a year old and really sweet

We've never had a 'mean' Pekin. That behaviour is fairly typical in the wild among ducks that are mating, it is not outright aggression. It sounds like he needs more hens.

awww poor little guy. find the neosporin WITHOUT pain reliever. Make a little bonnet type bandage for the little one to try to keep the wound/scalp clean and change it regularly. Make sure he gets some electrolytes in his water to keep him from dehydrating and try some high protein type food/treats. Scrambled egg or mashed boiled egg is good, if he will eat it.

As for that Pekin drake...roaster time. If you do not rehome or give him the eviction notice to the roaster....he will most likely kill your other drakes and ducks smaller than him. There are too many good drakes out there to waste time on an overly aggressive one. Craigslist is a good place to put up an ad.

You mentioned you had been trying to rehome another drake since you got him?

This is not the time to be trying to sell them, put a post on craigslist giving them away and I bet you they'll be gone in a day. I would be honest that they are agressive, someone else might not have any issue culling them and having a free meal and you certainly don't want someone with kids or something thinking these are suitable pets.

Personally, I would never waste them since I would have put the money into feeding them and everything. I think every poultry owner should know how to cull a bird, if you have any decent amount of birds at one point or another you will encounter one that needs to be put down. It took me about 6 months to be comfortable doing it and now I can do it no problem. It's supposed to be hard for you to do, if it wasn't I'd worry. But you've got two nice duck dinners for your family there, why foot the bill for someone else to have free dinner?

Sadly, he died last night

R.I.P Rajee, you will be missed,LUCKILY I think he's Jingos father, because her color is most like his was.

Awww. What a sad ending.

Definitely rehome that Pekin...to the freezer.

BTW, we have lovely Pekins. Very friendly. You just ended up with a bad apple...speaking of apples....he would be good with some apple stuffing *wink*

I am having a similar problem, but not to that degree - wow, poor call drake!!

I have a swedish drake who simply wants to mate all the ladies - nothing out of the ordinary in that, but I also have calls and mallards, and he is so much bigger than they are. He has grabbed some of the call girls by their wings to drag them back to him so he could mate.

I am currently locking him in jail at night when they all go to their pen - during the day they free range, and he is more or less not a huge problem until evening when they all start to gather back towards the pen, so I put him and his girls into the pen earlier than the others. That way they smaller ducks get a chance to free range without him pestering them.

I am also trying to sell him and his swedish girls (no luck yet).

However, if I had a duck that did that to one of my other ducks (or any critter here) I would not have any problem at all dispatching him in whatever manner was quickest.
