when we were in CA we did all our camping in winter. In the desert - it was GREAT!

impossible to keep up with

*Our a.c. is usually on from mid-April through January!!! Some days you spend feeling like a rung-out dishrag, others you wear one on your head!!! My advice-- put a spray bottle of water in the fridge for quick cool-downs, for you AND your chickens!! Set it to fine mist and enjoy!!!!

How do you keep chickens cool in the summer heat? Ours are 3 months old.

Thanks for any adice.

* I've been out 4 times just today to spritz Miss Chook a little with chilled water from a 1/2 gal. Pump-pressure garden sprayer, she has 4 waterers all for herself, and she has a "shade roost" we made for her in a spot that normally catches a good breeze. SPOILED MUCH???

The only thing I like about summer is the garden. But once it has been harvested bring on the fall, winter, or spring. Can't take the heat, it makes me sick, fast. I can be outside in the sun and within 20 minutes I am getting an aweful headache, so I go inside and sit here and chat with you all.

Ha ha, Yall aint seen nothing. Were in for a hot hot hot summer here in Texas. It hit 99 yesterday and its still feeling cool compared to what we have in store. My chicken coop has a full time box fan for my girls. And they walk around with their wings out. even the pullets do this. And two sides of the coop are covered in chicken wire to help with air flow. since winters are so mild this works great. I imagine we will break some record highs this year cause were way above normal for this time of year. usually 88 to 90 now.

We're just getting warm here in central NY. We've just started planting vegies. Had a couple of heavy frosts last week. Mid 70's here during the day.

Weather here is like you are getting Katy. I did my chores around seven this a.m. and then hung out the laundry there is such a wonderful breeze out there. I ended up lying on the glider on the porch this afternoon in the wonderful cool breeze. Very hot and humid in the house and in the sun but the shade is wonderful. I refuse to turn on the a/c yet. I have to hold out as long as I can due to hating the house closed up and not being able to hear what is going on outside and then the utility bill is outrageous already.

We're in the 90s this week too and expecting 97 for the next three days, a little lower after that. Just last week or the week before (can't remember) we had a cold front go through and we were unusually cool. Now we're unusually hot. It's like being on a temperature roller coaster during the fall and spring in NC.

As for the chicks... I've got two plastic bottles in the freezer now for tomorrow. I boiled them some spaghetti and have it in the refrigerator so I can give it to them cold. And, I'm going to make up some watermelon balls and freeze them. I gave them cold watermelon today and they seem to appreciate it, so I'm hoping they'll really enjoy the frozen balls tomorrow.

At least their run is all wire so the breeze does go through it. Poor little things.
