I Hate Wal-Mart!!!

Even if I leave that particular story out of the argument, there are still many many good reasons not to shop there.

I honestly cant think of any REAL reasons NOT to shop there...

Nah.. those dont faze me..sorry. If i was to worry about getting stuff from China..then i'd have nothing in my house ...lol
And i can bet the same goes for your house... really look around your house.... where does a majority of it come from? Is EVERYTHING American made/grown? If not.. then you cant speak.. sorry.. just MY opinion on it.

I do agree that it DOES suck about taking away Americans jobs... but thats not a Walmart problem/fault.. thats our governments fault!
Think about it.. really...its just too easy and lame for everyone to blame Walmart..

It's true that it is not solely Wal-Mart's fault, but I believe it's also very true that we vote with our dollar. Money spent at Wal-Mart is a vote for jobless Americans, sweatshops, China, a throw-away nation, etc.

*Edit* I can see this is going nowhere though so I'm done.

open a business, provide all your retail locations with WORKING display items. Then when it's time to update your display models with the new version, PAY to have all the items shipped back to you. Then pay employees to track, unwrap and resell the old (now used) merchandise, pay the store overhead that is now reselling that used merchandise. Meanwhile coordinate with your accounting dept and try and figure out how to justify the expense of all this - WITHOUT passing that cost onto the customer. (hint, you either have to raise prices, buy oversea's or cut wages)

Calculate the cost on doing that a few times a year, X 25,100,300+ stores. The indignant feelings will fade fast. The reality of what it takes to run a business is known only to those that do it. It's easy to read a quarterly report and see the money made but have no idea what the cost of generating that is.

Please dont misread my post as an attack. I just think that people should be more educated on things before they decide that company's are not being good stewards of society and think they should throw money away, so that nobody is offended.

Company's that sell/service sani-cans have an EXTREMELY high profit margin. But nobody decides their not doing the right thing by placing their products for free in the projects or in low income area's. There are things that I dont like about WalMart as well, but I still go there all the time. I have to laugh at the people that complain about the part time positions, insurance issues, night shifts. Those people KNEW what the position was going to entail BEFORE they got hired. They knew the benefits, the insurance and welcomed the job offer, Yet once in, they decide it's no longer fair and want the rules rewritten. They cant see past their own lunchbox. Almost every state in this country has a "work at will" contract with workers. That means that EITHER side can terminate the work agreement for ANY reason other than age, sex, religion etc. If the terms of employment are no longer satisfactory, then you are free to leave without penalty.

Dont even get me started on unions........Sorry, I could go on and on.

I really like Walmart. Some grocery items are overpriced there, and you have to be careful and not assume you're always getting a bargain. My husband works there and is treated much better than when he worked at Safeway (I refuse to step foot in Safeway!). I believe in supporting local and small business, but the bottom line is that I'm going to shop where I can get the most for my money. Maybe someday, when I get rich, I won't think it's such a virtue to be frugal.

I am not sure why Walmart is singled out so much. JCPenney and most other major retailers underpay their employees and get stuff from China too.

My main complaint with Walmart is their shrinking selections...especially in the dairy department. I now go to Vitamin Cottage to get all my dairy. LOVE this brand... www.farmerscreamery.com

to make true changes then the consumers are going to have to change things also such as not being a throw away society, also wanting everything super cheap, as long as people have the mind set of buy it it breaks buy new instead of buying quality and fixing it when it breaks then there will be a demand for things made cheap, plus business have had to move their factory's to china Mexico and such due to needing to make things cheaper so people will buy them its not wal-marts fault it is the American consumers fault. when we take things to the dump it amazes me to see what people throw away, the furniture that is still in good shape just not the color they want now, until we as Americans change the way we do things then the problem will stay the same most of the things in every store come from the same places target K-mart, sears penny's all of them get there stuff from the same place as Wal-mart.
