I hate when other teens tell my daughter

Time to start charging rent, grocery bill, phone bill, water bill, cable bill, electric bill, car insurance, health insurance, internet service, car payment, and her own fuel, buy her own clothes, the washer and drier now takes quarters(lol), she needs to wash her own dishes and cook her own meals as well....and IF she can pay/do all those, then yes, she IS old enough and adult enough to do what she wants. Pretty simple.

not to argue, because I don't disagree, but I got into the same thing with my mom when I was about 17, and sh pulled the "not under my roof", so I moved out and into my 28 year old boyfriend's house... not sure you want to push thiings that far...

And your point is?
That it was your mothers fault you moved in with a 28 year old guy? Nice try but what ever happened was on you. You bought it, you own it.

The way I see it I would let whoever is telling your daughter this that unless their parents want your daughter on their doorstep they'd better put a sock in it. Tell them you live by the house rules, whoever owns the house makes the rules.

As for grandparents who go against the parents. There is no law says they get to see the grandkids and I'd just end the visitations and let them know why. Kids first everyone else last.

On the other hand from what I've read here some parents shouldn't be.

Sometimes counseling is in order.

My point isn't that i had a bad time, I had a GREAT time. he bought me alcohol, other things, he dropped me off at school, and he'd pick my up afterwards, and we'd stay up late watching movies and smoking, and doing things that would have KILLED my mother if she'd known. My point is that if my mother had known what she was 'kicking' me out to go do, i doubt she'd have done it.

I will happily make my kids' lives a living hell at home, school, homework, work-work, early lights out, no phone, no car etc... much more than just letting them have free rein.

lol...I bet it would have killed your mother knowing, but I also bet she would have secretly hoped you got your rear thrown in jail for a bit to get the point...I sure would have. If that's what you wanted, and you thought you were an "adult" than all the power to you.
...I just turned 21 yesterday, and you know what? I still live with my parents (we own a farm, and my job is to run and manage it...Not going to leave when I have a paying job!), I respect them enough to go by their rules and do what they ask, I can accept responsibility for my bad actions, AND pay for things that need to be paid...I hate seeing teens/young adults who think they know all, and think EVERYTHING needs to be their way or no way. JMHO

But did you learn a lesson? If so, then your kids should benefit from it.

Sometimes parents have to let there kids fall flat on their faces to learn their lessons. You did what you wanted and had some nasty guy take advantage of you (because he was 28...thats just wrong) and hopefully if you have a female child you will sit down with her and tell her from your heart how wrong it was for you to do what you did.

My 17 year old isnt pulling the "I am an adult" thing yet but since she is counting the days until she is 18 (October), I see it coming.Sigh.

my 17 year old has been trying it for almost a year now..a few months ago he got really cocky, cussed me out so i tossed him out, told him to go to the youth shelter. well, he got even worse when we picked him up..he told us that he was going to be emancipated from us, that i couldn't do anything blah blah blah so i had him admitted for a 72 hour evaluation courtesy of our local mental health center.
he is still trying to push the boundaries, but i just remind him that in 6 months, which will also be the dead of winter..he will have ALL the freedom he wants, even more so if he is still talking back to me. and i meant it. the day he turns 18 and he tries pulling the routine hes been pulling, i will pack his stuff and send him on down the road.
*sorry for totally butting in your thread, had to get it off my chest!!*

Going through this now with my 17 yr old daughter. She is graduating on Saturday and will be moving in with grandma. She doesn't like living in CT anymore and wants to go back to RI.
She hates that she has to help out around the house, that she isn't allowed to take the car (was caught sneaking out to see her boyfriend), mad because she couldn't have a boyfriend until she finished school (got one anyways). I told her if she thinks life is going to be better living somewhere else then go for it, but don't come crying back when crap hits the fan. She thinks everyone is going to support her. She has no interest in getting a job. I did tell her that she will have to change her license to RI and she just about chucked a nut. So glad I only had one.
