Well a few months back some bone head tried his best to steal my girl Abbey right out of the back yard !!
and yesterday while cleaning up and taking down the rest of the decortaions I noticed a grey/silver truck drive by my house , stop pull back real slow pull into my driveway - ( my driveway is the streets trun around everyone does it [IMG] ) but instead of stopping he keep pulling forward right into my yard and stop than I noticed there were two guys and they were pointing at my chicken yard area!! so I stepped out on the porch ( makingsure the door was left open just enough for my big male boxer to look out and start barking) they saw me andstarted to back up rather fast and took off !
now the way I have my chicken yard is I can see it from my living room window, DH's Nascar room window, and the bathroom window. alsoyou CAN not leave the house without the girls seeing us they are right in the front yard I planned on it that way so we could see every inch of the run and the coop.

So now I am going to be fencing off some more of the yard along with a bigger fence for the dogs !
I swear if one of my chickens is missing I will go postal on whoever takes them !

That seems to be happening alot! Do you have your chicken coop locked? Hmm..is there something else you can do?? Looks like we are all going have to start placing alarm systems on our chicken coops!! [IMG]

Did you happen to get a plate?

Yikes Julie, I hope they aren't planning on stealing your chickens. I'm with you - I would have the same reaction if anything bad happened. JJ

I was not able to get plate # since when they pulled into the yard they were not parked straight on --
I plan on putting some kind of lock on the door - also I am wanting to teach one of my dogs to sleep in the chicken run at night ( after all the chickens are locked up ) so that way if someone comes at night she will bark ( and she is loud ) I will put a dog house in thier for her - which I am sure the chickens will love during the day !! but I have to wait till it warms up more at night ( since right now all the dogs are sleeping inside )
I just dont know what else you can do to protect your animals these days it is getting crazy !!

A hotwire [IMG] I'd pay to watch that with the criminals LOL Or maybe imitation video cameras? I wonder if they weren't the cock fighting kind after your roosters.

I moved all my chicken pens to the back of our property out of fear of them being stolen. All the pens are surrounded by a 4ft fence with a locked gate, and I plan on getting locks for each pen as well the next time we go on vacation. The whole area is in view of my two dogs, one of which barks if she so much as hears an ant fart in the middle of the night.

It just makes me sick that people steal chickens when, if they put a little time and effort into it, they could find all they wanted for free! Who would want to end up in jail for stealing chickens? Some people are just very lazy and/or stupid, I guess.

I would try putting a baby monitor in the coop. If you put it up on the ceiling, the girls can't get to it and the bad guys won't notice it is there and turn it off. If you put the dog out there, I would hate for anything to happen to him/her. And the other thing to do, is notify the police that you had someone cruising your neighborhood and pull into your driveway. Maybe they will patrol your area more often and keep an eye out for these guys. Maybe they are already wanted and the police are looking for them. Yikes, I would be really scared if I were you. Good luck!!!

Perhaps a few signs stating that the property is monitored by digital cameras/web cams......... I'm not sure how much fake cameras cost, but the thought of being captured on tape or the seen over the internet might deter some #@!!heads from even casing the place.

I think my first chicken may have been stolen, the 2 boys that gave it to me were just throwing it around so I think that they took it just for fun and then got bored so they gave it to me.

That must be awful having people go to your yard and trying to take your chickens.
