Bargain is on BYC. Her Name is Nancy. She is one of the sweetest people you will ever met. Her husband is named Joucq I think I spelled that right. She has a lot of different poultry. I love her speckled sussex. She lives in Georgia. Just go to user id and type in Bargain. It will show her PM and email and you can get up with her like that. As far as turning the eggs go I do it like this. I have a 2 X 4 board under the incubators. Every few hours I move the board from one end to the other. By doing it that way I have the incubators at a 45 degree angle thus moving the eggs just like the hand turning would do. It is easy and works great. You can only do it this way if you have the eggs in a carton type holder or some type of tray. I have the bottoms of the egg carton cut out so there is air flow all around the eggs. As I stated I now have another incubator going and do not have eggs stacked on top of each other even though I have done that and it worked fine also.
Now I need to state to you one thing. The really Dark BCM eggs came from Pasofinofarms. They are on BYC also. Bargain's BCM hens are going through a cycle right now and are not quite as dark but they will be Dark again soon. I have gotten eggs from her that were nice and dark and I have had good hatches from her shipped eggs. She does a great packing job and she ships promply. Nancy and her Husband are great people and I highly recommend them.

Okay today was day 7. I candeled half of the eggs today and I will do the others tomorrow. Out of 80 eggs I checked today there were 5 that were clear (all of them EE's ), 1 that was cracked ( Delaware). There were also 5 more that were a question. They were a mixed croup of eggs. That leaves 69 of those eggs that should be going well. I will check the other 86 eggs to see how they are. I also received another 14 eggs from Hbuler. They are EE's and barred rock mixed with EE's. They came on this Friday. I will start them tonight after I recheck the last incubator. Thanks to all. Wish me luck. Things are looking pretty well so far. Later, Dave

Thanks a lot. I already have everything I need as I am starting over from early last year before my 2 heart attacks and my back surgery in Dec. I sold my old mixed bunch of RIR's, Barred Rocks, Easter Eggers and Buff Orps. I was lucky enough to get all these good eggs from people on BYC. The Good Lord has given me the strength to restart and a good wife beside me. This is only a small flock and I have farmer cousins that will take the chicks I don't need. They don't care really about the type as long as they lay brown eggs. They are mostly old timers and have 20 acres or so of their own land and rent the rest from other families.
I will keep things posted and i intend tocandel the rest on Sunday. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers they certinly help. Love and best wishes to all.

Hi Dave, best of luck with the hatches. Looks like its going to be a full house soon. I have 18 eggs set 3 days ago, boy time sure does not fly during this 3 weeks does it. About your leg pain, is it from your back (pinch nerve) or peripheral diabetic neuropathy. Medications to consider are Neurontin, Cymbalta, or Elavil. You may already tried these. Wait just a second, we supposed to discuss about chickens, LOL

I take neurontin for my pain from Rheumatoid arthritis, and it has really helped me to sleep at night.

So I have more energy to take care of the chickens. (See that made it on topic.)

I take 800mg 3 times a day of neurontin. That is a max dose. I tried Lyrica and it did great but at $50 a month I went back to neurontin. They are going to do test next week to see if it is nerve pain from the L4- L5 area where I broke my back years ago. The nerves were actualy wraped around a broken screw from a previous spinal fusion that broke apart. I am going May 1st to have some diabetic test run to see just where I am at with the diabeties. I did an aic test several months ago and it was around 275. I have been doing a lot better. My sugar level has been around 165 lately taking metaformin 500 mg 2 times a day. I have not had to take insulin for almost 1.5 months now. Thank the Good Lord and the Docs. Thanks for the concern form all of you. Yes this is about chickens because we have to be able to get around to take care of our feathered friends. I had to think long and hard before I decided to get back fooling around with poultry. I had to sell my old flock because I could not take care of them and it was not fair to my wife Paula for her to have to take care of me and the chickens. It is my hobby and it should be up to me to take care of them. Paula is so good to me and has stood by my side forever. I love her very much.
Now as far as the eggs and potential chicks go it is full steam ahead for now. I have cleaned all the feeders and the waterers. I have checked the heating lamps and now I am making a brooder. I should have everything ready by the end of the week. I plan on running the brooder for a couple of days and then shutting it down until the 3rd of March. The chicks should be here on the 4th and 5th of March Lord willing.
Does anyone have a good way of marking chicks as far as to breed besides banding them. I have thought about marking them with marker like the hatcheries do. That may work. I have also thought about making a couple of small hatching centers for the different breeds but that would take a lot of space i don't really have. Please if you have any thoughts let me know. thanks, Dave
