Just read the thread, good luck Dave! I'm due to hatch 32 eggs on March 3rd! That's enough for me in one hatching. In addition though, I have another 12 2-5 week old chicks in my outdoor brooder. 10 of them are Mottled Java's from Steve and Sharon at SandS. I drove out to pick them up...it was 2 hours each way for me because I'm not on the coast!
Definitely worth the trip because these birds are beautiful! I've got them in with a lone Delaware, and a lone White Java. Hatch in now is Delawares, Barred Rocks, Black/White Javas and BBS Orpintons.
Just remember to take care of yourself too, watch that sugar. I don't know if you've read any of the new diet info on Diabetics but American Diabetes Association is a little bit behind the times now. They are now recommending that Type II diabetics only get about 130 grams of carbs a day. I know my mother in law is a carb addict and really good at looking at how many sugars and carbs are in each and every thing that she eats, but she is really bad at totaling them up.
She had breakfast at waffle house last week, she had a blueberry waffle, with sugar free syrup, bacon, coffee and then ate my father in laws toast with jam. That breakfast was 114 carbs without her even knowing it. She had sugar free syrup etc... bakes with only splenda, doesn't eat candy with sugar in it.... (Please not this is not a lecture, just passing on info).
I know I try to look out for cholesterol for my family knowing we are only supposed to have 30grams a day, but I do it the same way, I see how much is in this, how much is in that, and as long as it is 30% of our daily allowance we eat it.... I never think, that's not OK to eat that same 30% 6 times in one day. She does the same thing.
But this is a new thinking compared to the old way of percentage of your plate, or number of diabetic exchanges, etc that they have taught in the past, and it sounds to me like you have been diagnosed for a while so I thought I would pass that along so you could look into it, talk to your doctor about it.
