I have 150 eggs set as of Saturday Feb 13th.

HAVE FUN DAVE! This bunch on BYC are definitely enablers when it comes to our addiction, but they all seem to be a pretty good bunch. I also have a question, I've got some RIR X barred rock and game X barred rocks hatching. I was wondering if they are sex linked and can you tell by the color? Also will the cross affect the matter?

I think the RIR x Barred Rocks are sex linked, but I do not really know for sure. You could ask in the breed section, as some of those people are really knowledgeable.

Wow that was a lot of quick post. hickeryguy that does make sense about the red color. Like I said before my wife Paula said she could mix up the primary colors that are in the food coloring box and make me several colors. Glad to hear that the food coloring works on the damp chicks. I think with the amount of chicks I may just get Paula to mix up several other colors and do it that way. Tryingto tie the tyes around the chicks legs may keep them out to long and opening the bator for to long a time. I am going to use the long cotton swabs dipped in the food coloring to mark the chicks. I think that would be quick and easy and keep me from handeling the chicks so much. Thanks everyone and keep the ideas and good wishes comming. later, Dave

I think you'll be fine. I'd make out a chart with all your different categories, and then put a dab of the assigned color beside each heading. That way you can match color w/ category and then to bird.

UPDATE: I got peeping going on. From what I can tell this is what I can see through the glass. The first is an old English Game Fowl. It has a slight chip in the egg and I know from experience that they tend to grow the quickest. I can hear a lot of other peeps from all arond but have not seen anything else. I will update this note later as things happen. I think it is going to be a busy day! Later, Dave

Okay here goes. I have hatched out a modern game fowl and an old english game bird. I also have an old english game bird that has peeped a small place in the shell. The first chick took almost 10 hours to finally get most of the way out. I guess tonight or tommorrow will bring more chicks. Stay tuned.

It is now Saturday March 6th. I am sick as a dog with tummy trouble if you know what I mean. I now have 3 very cute Old English Game Birds. I also have 5 RIR's that are starting to peep. They just started at about 8:00am. I have not seen any others yet. I also noticed that I had the date wrong in my post It was suppose to be March 6th not the 13th. I told you my math was funny. I will update later today. Bye for now
It is now 11:11 am and I have 6 Delaware chicks hatching. I had heard peeping but could not see where in the hovabator they were at. They were behind the digital themometor. They are zipped all the way around almost. I hope they will be out of the shell by 1:00 pm today. The RIR's are still just barely chipping away at their shell and I think the Delawares may beat them out of the shell. They are in 2 different incubators so I guess I can put them in a race. Tummy is still upset but may be getting some better. Thank the Lord for pepto. I now have another Delaware and a Jersey Giant to add.
