I've got the 4 mixed chicks in the brooder with my 4 RIRs now. No more pips just yet, but it's only day 21 for RIR's and 20 for the last Mix.
Just to re-cap-- I got my RIR eggs, set them, and came home with a couple dozen farm eggs from a girl at work (her mother sells them), and thought -- what the heck-- she's got a rooster, and I've got room-- so we decided to set 6 of those eggs too. And, we've got 4 chicks from them so far!! I have NO Idea of what kind of hens she's got, nor the rooster-- but he was a freebie "rare chick" from McMurray, when she ordered her hens. I plan to see if the girl at work can find out what kind of chickens they do have- but was waiting to see if they hatched first, to tell her that I put them in the incubator.
To my surprise--- I do have 2 fuzzy footed ones
They are adorable, and have some very pretty markings-- I've tried to get a few different angles, hoping some of you have ideas about what they might be. I surely wish I'd have set more than 6, now that I've got 4 hatched already
Here's one with fuzzy feet:
To the right and rear are the mixes (pictured with 2 RIRs)
The tops/backs of the 4 mixed chicks:
and another couple that came out OK
