I have a Araucana pullet with Crooked Beak and i wanted to know if anyone knew if this is normal for this breed or is there something i can do about it? She is having a lot of trouble eating and she gets really frustrated and knocks over the food tray. I feel bad for her!

Crooked or crossed beaks can occur in any breed of chicken. You can carefully trim the beak back to the quick which may help her with her eating. It is also necessary to provide such birds with a deep dish of feed so that they can eat. Many die of starvation or illness because of malnourishment.

She is a bit smaller than the others and we should have trimmed her beak when she was younger, now she is almost a hen and her beak is just out of control.

This is Bubbles our CrossBeak Crazy Chicken.

The picture above is when Bubbles was just a little chickie... Look how bad her beak looks in this picture! Now just imagine her beak a ton worse and she is older, almost a hen!

Everytime I look at her she makes me wanna cry!!!

Every Morning I good out to the coop to feed the chickens, she runs out and flies up and I can barely put the food in the feeder without her almost attacking me because she is so hungry!!!!! Every food container I put out she brakes because she gets frustrated and scratches it til it is broken. We try to hand feed her every other day but she will get frustrated and scratch my hand and it hurts!! We have a feed tray right now for the chickens because Bubbles destroys all the other plastic cheap feeders that we have bought. Sadly she knocks the food tray that we have out over when she gets frustrated!! She cant peck the food off the ground like the others do because of her crooked beak and she cant scoop the food up with her mouth like she can with a deep dish. Does anyone have any recommendations on food containers that wont break easily and or don't tip over?
