Some people let their girls sit on un-fertile eggs thinking they will eventually hatch.![]()
Ah that's makes senseI have several hens 12 to be exact and 8 layed in the same spot that day and she is setting other hens eggs
Oh wow! That's very interesting! So how long can a fertilized egg wait to begin incubation? Not a dumb question at all! Unlike humans, the eggs don't start to develop immediately upon fertilization. The chick won't start growing until the egg has been incubated (artificially or under a broody) for 24 hours or so. That way they all start developing at the same time, and hatch at the same time. The broody won't start to set until she quits laying eggs during her broody cycle. She doesn't lay an egg, stay on the nest, lay another egg while staying on the nest, etc.
A few days from what I understand people mail eggs all over the world via ups and fed x. I read somewhere they can last up to two weeks and still be good.Oh wow! That's very interesting! So how long can a fertilized egg wait to begin incubation?
Naturally, viability goes down the longer they sit, but yes - they can still hatch after a couple of weeks.A few days from what I understand people mail eggs all over the world via ups and fed x. I read somewhere they can last up to two weeks and still be good.
