I did not have much luck last year, I wanted Toulouse geese so I bought some hatching eggs online. I ended up with 8 goslings but the neighbours dog killed four and 2 were killed by the fox.
So I ended up with 2 a russian grey gander and an embden goose, both 8 months old.
she started laying a week ago and lays an egg every other day, this evening (not a laying day) she is sat on her nest in 17:30. I thought that geese always lay there eggs in the morning. I have been taking the eggs away. Do you think she is going broody or just laying an egg?
should I let her sit on eggs this year and if so when?
Anybody in Germany with Toulouse hatching eggs I would be inteested in buying in March.
thanking youin advance,
Fruber

Geese have individual personalities when it comes to laying/nesting/brooding behavior. Not all geese lay in the morning, but most geese will set an internal cycle and lay fairly on schedule to what she deems is best time of day.

As for nesting/brooding, this is also highly individual, although production breeds tend to be more broody than others. Some geese make a big fuss over their nests before laying 1st egg. Some start fussing and hanging out on nest once they have laid a few eggs, but never go broody. Some lay a large clutch, then go broody overnight. Some never go broody or overly fuss with nests.

Finally, if you want her to hatch her own eggs, her nest must be in a location where it will not be disturbed by others, especially predators, for duration of sitting. Otherwise, destroy current location and set up a nest with a couple of her eggs in better location.

Thanks Iain
I am going to check her this morning and see if she is still sitting
