I have a foal coming this fall... Any tips?

I have raised two weanlings into full grown horses. One a filly, one a colt. We have our first foal on the ground just last week. My advice is work with this baby every day. If you have the opportunity to work with baby before it comes home so they get used to you, your smell ect. The younger you can work with them the better. You have to show herd dominence day 1 with baby, they will try to push you around if you let them. Even if you are just taking ten minutes to pick up feet, brushing them ect. There is a way to use firm but gentle handling that they will learn to respect you. There is a book I reccomend by john lyons called "bringing up baby" It is a series of lessons for roundpen training to start a foundation with your little one. I used it with both my babies and I will use it with my new foals this year. IT actually can be used on any horse that needs some training. Babies are fun but working with them now is alot easier than when they put on another 500lbs and they try to be dominant over you. Of course we need pics. Here is the link to the book
