I have a mixed flock, but this one’s unique?

I think I have a chicken problem…. Chicken math we are officially up to 150 or so chickens. View attachment 3449405
I just got 23 French Black Copper Marans
And 50 Cornish cross meat birds on top of our first original flock of 20. plus I have 58 hatched out of my barnyard mix incubator then I have eagles eggs running right now in an incubator so that’s another 10-12 chickens if I get even a 50% hatch rate out of that incubator.

And we finally upgraded their cardboard box brooders to something much more sturdier and lined with plastic on the bottom.

We will be selling our barnyard mixed ones but eagles project eggs will be here for as long as I can tell if they will look like her or not

and the Cornish cross will be here for next 8-10 weeks before we harvest them and they go into the freezer.

French black copper marans will be a separate private flock to sell eggs and hatching eggs from next year.

I will probably always keep her! I just hope I can start getting more like her before a predator or something happens. Fingers crossed nothing does for as long as she lives but we’ll see it’s farm life and stuff happens

If you have any barred rock hens, you can put them with a BCM rooster and the chicks will be sex-linked (thats how they make “mystic” or “noir” marans). That could be handy if you live in an area where straight run chicks are tricky to sell.

You might need a second generation on that to identify recessive genes.

I agree, it would be best to breed a confirmed son of Eagle back to her.
