I have caged my Broody Hen and we are sad, am I doing the right thing?

It's true that it really shouldn't hurt the hen to go broody, or adversely affect her health. I was just stating reasons some folks want to break their broodies, and that if left trying to brood for weeks on end a hen condition could suffer.

There are so many people wanting a broody hen that if you have one who is difficult to break, you both might be happier if you traded the bird to someone else who could use her to incubate eggs.

I am wondering now if I want to break broody. I do not have any roosters, and 6 of my hens are broody. The one I have in the cage has been broody for 6 weeks or so. I let her out today for a few minutes and she walked around for a few minutes and went straight for the nesting box. So I am assuming she is still broody.

The reason I want to break her (and the others) is that my egg production is down from my remaining chickens because my broodys are filling the boxes and I would like my egg production to go back up.

She is 7 days in the cage. She never showed signs of broody other than sitting in the nesting box with no eggs under her for over a month. Some of the hens that are sitting all the time show a liitle aggression and fluff up and charge me, but some just sit all day and all night.

So my question today is, will they eventually break broody on their own (I am six weeks and waiting), or how much more time should I leave her in the cage?

I am newe at chickens and everything about them. I have a hen that isa brodding. I keep chasing her out of the pen. Now I have aplaced a plywood board against the nest so she can not go in, she just has to stay in the yard anbd pen with the other one, and at night I will put them back into the nesting box, to sleep for the night , then repeat th eprocess. Is that ok,? The correct way to do it? If that does not work thenI qwill make a wire box, and place it on bricks and put the hen in. How will I know when she is broken from her broody? About how long does iut take? And will it happen again, to her and the other hen? If so when, is this a regular thing.
