I have cheeping!

This is my second micro-clutch of Narragansett eggs, after last week's failed single egg hatch.

Obviously the four thermometers in the incubator are not accurate, as these eggs should have begun the hatching process on Saturday, and the very first indications appeared late last night. I've bumped the thermostat up to give another degree of equalized temperature for the three remaining clutches in the incubator.

I have three eggs in lockdown, one of them is peeping VERY loudly, but no rocking around and no external pips. The other two are quiet. I am waiting for some action here!

Chick in the shell is talking to hatched chick. The hatched chick has curled under toes, so I splinted with snowshoes. I left for a few hours and he/she popped the navel, it was nice and pulled in when I left. I think all the flopping from the curled feet caused that.

#2 has pipped, so now it is waiting time again!

#2 pipped, zipped, and popped just like she should have. #3 I water candled, no activity. Candled, saw internal pip. Created external pip and found deceasead poult, perfectly formed, not shrink wrapped, yolk and blood vessels absorbed. Some of these shells must just be too tough to crack. I will no longer wait after seeing an internal pip/hearing peeping, I will open a small external pip.

Cheep and Peep at one day old! We have some orthopedic issues to correct but they are happy.

I don't think you have orthopedic issues. Newly hatched chicks are weird on their feet for the 1st 24 hrs and without fail their feet look swollen. In a day or 2 I believe you will be seeing normal feet and legs.
