We are new to the chicken world. We got 10 chickens to start and are picking up 5 more this weekend. The 5 we are getting this weekend are older and have been laying for a few weeks. So now wondering there because we know they are ladies. 3 out of ten are teenagers. We believe one hen and one roo and one "special" chicken as we say due to a damaged leg. My question is I have read, reread, listened to people who have chickens, and read some more on sexing. So basically what has happened is I have decided the 7 younger ones are all female, all male, a mix, and this pattern has repeated lol. Is there a very simple method to figure this out? Here is a few pics so maybe someone can simply tell me which one is what... I feel pretty stupid at this point. Lol

Welcome to BYC!
I didn't quite catch on to how old these little ones are, but this is what I'm thinking...
The first chick is a pullet.
The three in the second picture all look like cockerels.
The chicks in the third and fourth pictures are both cockerels.
Nice birds!

So as I said we are very new to this. Does that mean when they get a bit older all the boys have to Go?

They don't HAVE to go. It depends on the rules and regulations in your area..... and if your neighbours will put up with the noise they will make every morning.

If you want to hatch out your own chicks, you'll need you keep a cockerel so that the eggs are fertile.

We live in the country so no neighbors to worry about We were more under the impression that they would fight each other???

They all have the sweetest little faces :D

For me, without knowing the ages or breed or breed mix I can't tell.

Could you post pics next week and we can see how they're feathering out? Do you know what breed(s) they are? I might have missed that in your original post.

Such beautiful little birds!!!
