I'd tell the dogs owners that the paint proves their dogs have been chasing your birds on your property and you have switched to guns with lead.

I had the same thing happen this week. Neighbor's dog got into my chickens. Rooster took the brunt of the "playing". No birds killed or injured except for all the rooster's tail feathers torn out.

and he had such a beautiful tail. Turns out the dog had killed a neighbor's cat and was antagonizing another neighbor's fox terrier through their bay window.
Anyway, I talked to the lady of their house, she asked "what were the damages?" Uh, none. But you need to keep the dog put up. she said they were trying to find him a home, she was NOT concerned.
Next morning, here the dog comes, DH shot under the dog with 12 guage shotgun. Dog yelped, turned and headed up the road with shot #2 ringing up his butt! Dog has not returned here.
Talked to neighbor with the fox terrier and she said dog's original breeder is taking dog back. I just hope it's far away!
Bet he's gun shy now.

Best thing I ever did was get an electric fence there not very exspensive. end of story, before that same thing happened to me only it was rare geese. I feel your pain. you are nicer than me I USE A SHOTGUN FOR TRESSPASSERS.

Well I'm glad you shot it...but I would have used something more powerful. My neighbor's dogs would come to my house and literally pull the skin off of my rabbits through the bottom of the cage by pulling their legs through and then skinning them alive..I came home and found rabbits bleeding, in shock and dying....I told the neighbor, he built a cage, the dogs climbed out and did it again. I came home late from work, petted the dogs, went into the house and came out with a 38 snub nose and blew them away and buried them in the woods. Next morning neighbor was calling them for breakfast..I said Good Morning, got in my car and went to work.

Well I really want a strong powerfull gun that will kill but the problem is is that first I live pretty close to neighbors and second I know for certain my mom would never let me get one lol,but good news is that my older bro really doesnt care and is getting a 2 barrel shotgun so if he teaches me to use no more doggies

Neighbors will probably figure out it was you,but if I were the shooter I would not admit it.Afterall stray/loose dogs can get shot up by anyone.It is the risk you allow taken when you let your pets roam.Anyway,keep mum because people get wacky even if they were in the wrong.

One of my neighbors at our old house did that to the neighbor's dog that lived directly accross from him. The dog would come into his yard every morning and poop by his front door. And after lots of complaining to that neighbor and threats to the police (who said that they couldn't do anything with out proof that the poop belonged to the neighbor's dog) my friend let that dog have it. Got him 7-10 times with the paintball gun. My friend said........"There's your proof now!"
