I HAVE FRIZZLED SILKIES! now if I just understood the different types

Frizzle= a chicken with the mutant feathering gene.

Silkies+frizzle=sizzle

Frazzle = a chicken with 2 doses of the frizzle gene, usually turns out super-ugly. (but still cute to their mammas

)

To get a fizzled lavender silkie, it would be a sizzle of some sort ( I don't know color genetics)

Sizzle roo- silkie x frizzle cochin. He's supposed to have silkie color and comb, but doesn't. Just got a blue sizzle out of him- the only silkie trait is 5 toes. Got some work to do here.

Okay I'll shoot for more clarity but I haven't been sleeping so take it for what you pay for it.

Silkies can be frizzled without having NORMAL curled feathers, they have curly silkie style feathers. In that case - those of us working with Sizzles - call them Frilkies.

A Sizzle (big S) has curly normal feathers.
A smooth sizzle (small s) has normal feathers.
A Frazzle or Curly has two frizzle genes, is over curly and often suffers from balding or excessively fragile feathers, they break and the birds don't tend to thrive, some do, some don't.
If crossing Sizzle (curly normal feather) to silkie you can also end up with more normal silkie birds, depending...

So the challenges of Sizzle/Frizzle and Silkie are many. I have Sizzles, sizzles, a frazzle and silkies. In blue/black/splash and gold birchen.

Any Sizzle to sizzle breeding can produce - Sizzles, sizzles, or Frilkies. My first group of hatching eggs contained all three. No frazzles then.

But I'm breeding Sizzle to Sizzle at the moment and did end up with a blue frazzle who is doing pretty well.

Any help???

I think I finally get it - somebody please correct me if I'm wrong:

Frizzle = cochin w/frizzled feathers
Sizzle = cross between a frizzle and a silkie (which is a hard feathered bird w/either frizzled or smooth feathers, never silkie feathers )
Frizzled silkie (or "frilkie", depending on who you're talking to) = a silkie with frizzled silkie feathers
Curley (or "frazzle") = a frizzle w/TWO copies of the frizzle gene, which causes brittle feathers
Curley silkie (or "frazzled" silkie) = a silkie with two copies of the frizzle gene (again, brittle feathers)
