And get the bigger pine shavings, not the flaky stuff.

He will also appear to nibble on it, but won't really eat it. But keep an eye on it anyway.

I use puppy pads under everything at first, until they start nibbling at it and tearing it up. Helps tremendously with cleanup.

Absolutely! If you have a farm and garden store near you they usually have them at a much better price than a pet store or superstore.

I use puppy pads for the first week or so then add a thin layer of shavings, and keep puppy pads under them for awhile too

Sorry I've been away for most of the night I've been on the phone and company coming to see the new baby. Baby is getting so fluffy now. I will post more pictures tomorrow I've just been so overwhelmed. I dipped the tip of his beak into the water and that was all it took. He is already eating and drinking and even made its first poop. Very active and vocal running around inspecting his new home. I am going to bed now and hopefully get a good nights sleep. Stay tuned tomorrow for some pictures. Night all

I also use puppy pads...With all the water they throw it keeps brooder clean a bit longer, but still have to change it out every couple days.. Sometimes I'll put puppy pads on top of shavings til it gets yucky then I pull it out to fresh shavings to last another day..Plus just seems more cooshy comfy to me to have the shavings under the pad instead of hard bottom of brooder.

I was thinking of a little stuffed toy for him to snuggle with? A beanie baby or something just about twice as big as he is? Might be the thing (but away from food and water)!

This is because he is alone in his flock (at the moment) and it is often used for "singles"...
