I have some good news!!! For all fat girls.

Congrats.

I had started to watch portion sizes and lost 10 lbs. Stopped losing for about 2 months buti did drop a jean size. Two weeks ago I weighed myself no drop in weight. Then yesterday just for the heck of it I jumped back on and I weighed 3 lbs less. So now I only have 97 lbs to go for my goal.

ETA: I have also given up soda. I used to drink 3-4 a day. Now I have maybe 1 a month when we go out. And its amaxing how much excercise you get slogging throught the snow to take care of the critters.

Hey Deb, that's great. congrats. You know the best part about this is you were on the Doctor's scales -- They always add another 5 pounds to my weight -- so you are even lighter than you think.

That shows you have had a real mental change in attitude about food's role in your life and happiness! I had the same shift of mind a few years ago too. And now, foods that used to tempt me and boss me around no longer appeal to me because I know they are NOT my friend.

Congratulations to you Debi, and for posting this thread.

Time is the biggest challenge. It isn't so hard in the summer when the days are longer but the shorter days (and I admit it, the freezing temps dont help the motivation) really take a chunk out of the time. I leave for work at 5:30 AM then pick my kids up at 2:30, come home, start homework, start dinner, let the chickens out for a bit but I am afraid to leave them alone since we have hawks and roaming dogs out here, by that time it is 5ish and hubby is getting home from work then by 5:30 it is starting to get dark! I'll be glad when the days get a bit longer again.

And like someone else said, I try to include a little bit of exercise when I am doing things around the house. Especially while watching TV I try to do yoga moves, stretching, balancing, etc... I think that helps.

You know another thing that I have found helpful? I know this sounds weird but I subscribed to several health magazines. They were cheap subscriptions but they really have helped my motivation. They have lots of articles about exercises that you can do around the house and some recipes and stories that kinda get me back in line if I am starting to lose my motivation. I really look forward to getting them each month.

Now if my cmputer will just let me post this!

Debi - Keep up the great work! You're doing just awesome! I agree, the scales at the doctor's office is always 5 lbs. off. Seriously!

I have lost 27 pounds since the end of August. I haven't been dieting, just watching what I eat more closely. It wasn't a planned change, either. It started when I lost about 4 pounds the week before I went to meet SO's parents. I was too nervous to eat.

What a way to kickstart weightloss!

Congrats Debi and all of you that are making lifestyle changes. I am the skinny person everyone loves to hate.

I fought all my life to GAIN weight and finally hit middle age, menopause and gained weight. I am 5'8" and weigh 140 pounds after a lifetime of 115-120 pounds. I now have curves.

My DH, on the other hand was overweight when we married 15 years ago and had terrible eating habits. I bought a book with a calorie chart in it and read it to him. I don't know if it all made sense to him or if he just wanted me to shut up, but he started counting calories and lost weight. It took over a year to lose 75 pounds. I know how hard it is for ya'll from helping him. Hang in there, eat your veggies and healthy meats. Hooray for you all.

Way to go, Debi! Congrats!

I'm having the same kind of success with the same kind of eating. What started it was a "Biggest Loser" contest at the school where I teach. I joined up, changed my eating habits (much to my DH's dismay; he loves to cook gloppy casseroles with lots of rice, potatoes, tortillas, and pasta.), and after a couple of months and some success losing, started excercising more seriously and walking/jogging with some ladies from the office in the mornings. So far, I'm in the lead on losing (about 14 lb out of the 25 I want to lose), and I even ran my first 5K on Thanksgiving day! (21 degrees, going out was uphill against a 30 mph wind, absolutely miserable!) The results were e-mailed yesterday, and I came in first in my age/sex group!! (That's the old lady group.)

Sounds like there are a bunch of us that have stopped dieting and just changed the way we eat. DH thinks things will go back to what he thinks is normal when I reach my goal, even though I've told him it won't. This is a lifestyle change, even if it means we each cook for ourselves.
