I have to talk POLISH!

They are a little older than yours, around 8 months. But our older Polish have struggled with the humidity recently.

I have one of my cockerels in my living room in a box right now. He seemed cold so I have a 60watt light on him. I don't know whats wrong with him. One of my dogs found him this morning on the barn floor. All he wants to do is sleep I did get him to eat a piece or two of food and have dipped his beak in water. I don't know what else to do. I have the baby vitamins with out iron. Should I give him a drop or to of them?

If he's not eating or drinking, you can try tube feeding him some water with electrolytes and vitamins. I usually use a water-gatorade solution, but the baby vitamins should work just as well. I did this for 2 weeks straight to save my dark brahma rooster.

He went down fast. I was doing some things out side and cleaning and packing away all my brooder boxes and incubator. When I came in to check on him I rubbed my hand down his back he flapped one of his wings and stiffened up like he had a seizure. He did that one other time and then died.

RIP Liberace

He looked like a beautiful boy. I'm sorry for your loss.

That was a very strange death. How old was he? I don't lose birds very often, but I lost an LF cochin rooster last spring and his death was similar. I found him in the coop just lying on the ground one morning. I came out later that day and realized that it was serious. I walked outside, put him in my lap, and just talked to him. Five minutes later, he seized up and passed away. I was heartbroken.

Thank you. He was 7 months. I still have a wc blue cockerel and pullet a wc black pullet who are also 7 mths and a silver laced who is 4 mths. I thought it was cockerel, but its crest has grown in round its just longer than the other pullets. The feathers are not as skinny as the other roos either.

Liberace was a odd ball in his color, but he hung out with my gold laced wyandotte.

I'm looking forward to hatching out some polish babies in the spring.

I'm sorry about your loss. I was reading the messages backwards and just now got to this. it does happen that way sometimes and seems to be the one you like most.

Ok I need some advice please, I have a lemon pekin bantam rooster, a lavender pekin pullet, 2 cream legbars, 3 ex batts and 1 wc black polish, all chickens have lived in the chicken palace for about 4 months, I have never had to put any of them to bed, but the last 2 nights my polish has gone to bed on the chicken palace roof, I have had to climb up get her and put her to bed, I'm in the uk and we are into cold wet weather, anyone know why she has decided to sleep outside???????

I don't know but I have a Polish hen about 4-5 years old who has just started to sleep in a tree. I don't know why either

Hi All,

Just found my way over to this thread and have been reading it on my Nook for the past couple of days (I'm laid up with an injury right now, so lots of time to read!) Anyway, now that I'm at my computer, I thought I'd share pics of my sweet boy, Bowie. He's 6 months old and I've had him since he was 5 days old. He has recently moved out of my kitchen and now lives with the Big Girls, as I call them (my laying hens) in the coop outside. They all get to free-range on my mini farm for most of the day. Bowie is an absolute hoot! I know he's just a pet, but I'm not into showing anyway and all of my chooks are pets that provide me with breakfast! LOL So basically, it doesn't matter a whit to me that he's not show quality...I think he's so handsome and he's just the sweetest guy ever! He follows me around and asks to be carried and pampered like a little lap dog. He found his voice early in life...he had a full-blown "Cock-a-doodle-doo" crow from the time he was 8 weeks old, in my kitchen, no less! Who needs alarm clocks, anyway? Now, he's living with 4 Australorp and 4 Red Star hens. I'll let him be a Daddy a few times in the future, just to replenish my own "herd" of chickens. Those crosses should be pretty entertaining!
Anyway, here he is!

This is where Bowie often likes to put himself to "bed" until I come outside and close up the coop for the night! I have to fish him out of there and tuck him in with his girls. It's his Man Cave, or as I refer to it, Bowie's Man Basket. Yes, I know my petunias are dead.

He is so long-legged! He looks like a roadrunner when he's trotting across the yard or paddock!

I just thought this was such a cute picture of him as a baby. He was 9 weeks old here. He still thinks, to this day, that he should be a Couch Chicken.

Thanks for indulging a proud mama!

Katja
