I think youre right. It got really "Bitey" with me last night, haha. that makes ONE polish pullet out of the eight that i ordered. go figure. at least its the splash! Theres a show next month in sacramento and hopefully i can find some polish there. anyone going that will have pullets?

well I finally got some pics of my gilbert and nancy like i promised. anyone remember them as little 'uns? i feel like it was just yesterday! I wish little red would have survived to be this old, he would have been gorgeous, but it looks like one of the other red roos is shaping up to be a lot like him. so maybe someday he will be a good replacement. Gilbert crowed for the first time yesterday and Nancy squatted for me today!

Your babies are getting big! So pretty! My bantam buff laced pullet has been laying for about 3 weeks now and soon I am going to be choosing a rooster to put in with her

I hope to be hatching some eggs from her soon if you are interested in chicks. She is a very calm sweetie pie and I am pretty sure I will be using my red sport buff laced rooster since he is also very calm and sweet. I am hoping for a line of Polish that have very good personalities

I haven't decided yet but I might be re-homing my blue pullet with the cuckoo markings in her crest.

I really like the aspect of breeding for personalities, i.e., temperment. I've always considered this a must in breeding dogs and haven't seen it to be a high priority on the chicken breeding list. Maybe this influx of urban chicken keeping will move temperment up on the list for breeders since people want a chicken thier kids can pick up.

One of the reasons I love the Polish breed so much is thier friendliness and I'd like to see that preserved in the breeding.....as well as the big hair-do....hey, I was a 80's country singer! I like big hair and I cannot lie!

I'll have chicks for sale this spring.....if my big haired, personality plus girls give it up anytime soon!

Bantams are miniature sized, like your Old English there.

Hatchery chickens are almost ALWAYS smaller than show chickens because hatcheries breed for production and profit, nothing more, meaning their birds naturally get smaller and skinner; makes their feed bill drop.

Thanks for distinction Illia. So much to learn.

any help with this would be appreciated

Not sure about meds. Maybe vitamins. When my Polish roo needed protection, I wrapped silk tape around his poof, not tight, just to hold it together and protect it.

Most feed stores have the purple stuff (sorry, can't remember the name of the stuff) that you can put on the pecked spot. I had two boys that were getting pecked and once I put that stuff on, it was amazing how fast the crest will grow back.
