I have to talk POLISH!

Pics
Hello Everyone! I'm looking for Silver Laced and Gold Laced Polish Trios in Northern or Central Oklahoma. I am also looking for Hatching eggs. I would like 1-2 dozen of each Shipped. I would consider chicks if local. Please PM me for any questions. Thank You,

Nate

I have one that is mixed with the rest of my bunch, shes a standard not a bantam though. She is the highest on the pecking order EXCEPT the brahmas who are twice her size. She also grew up brooded with them, but anyone else she will boss. let one of them fuss or even do an egg song and she's right there in their face. lol

I have a little polish hen that is the boss of my sultan hen....

Other than that, the hens are all pretty docile and low on the pecking order. My frizzle tolbunt hen can be pretty tough, and several of my polish roosters are dominant.

I have heard that polish roosters are notoriously territorial! I didn't know this until talking to the breeder I am getting my daughter's trio from. So I am now anxiously thinking on how my recreational future free ranging is going to change when they get out of quarantine. lol

I think I've said it a lot but honestly - ALL my Polish are either at the middle or the top of the pecking order. I've known a lot of Polish of many types/personalities/strengths/weaknesses and I tend to get rid of the bad ones, but, I've not run across many. My roosters are all pretty dominant boys, never been picked on except by more dominant roosters who've been around longer (and even then, if it is my Tolbunts who are picked on, they fight back!) My Polish girls are quite the tough gals, great foragers, super fliers, and will chase down small predoators or possible predators. When it comes to a serious scenario like a bobcat though, I discourage their act, as it is stupid in that case, but, in the case of cats, rabbits, mice, rats, etc - They do love it, and I don't stop them.

Never had human-aggressive Polish though. I've heard of them plenty, but, thankfully I've never dealt with one and never plan to.

btw, so excited

I'll be picking up my "crele" Polish cockerel tomorrow.

On last note I highly believe that weak Polish are a result of too little crested birds in a flock. They're different, often scared or insecure, and easily get picked on. In nearly every case I hear of with weak, picked on, or submissive Polish - It's in a flock with a very low percentage of crested chickens.

I am totally enjoying this thread. I love to look at Polish Pics. Here are a few of mine.

Lemon or Red Cuckoo. Not a true Polish variety .... yet. I'll be working on this one.

He's in a quarantine cage tonight, so I don't have the best shots of him, but, he's clean-faced/non-bearded, is basically a poorly laced barred bird, has a good tail angle from what I've seen so far (a relief, really) but seems a bit on the small side. He's said to be 8 months old, so I'll pull him out tomorrow and weigh him on my rather untrusty, not poultry-weight friendly scale just to get a slight estimate.

I think getting myself into Creles would be a great thing, but, I really gotta ask - Does anyone out there who's reading this have any idea on if there's a proposed standard floating around? PM me if you have info

Because my only iffyness on this is the fact that true Crele doesn't exist in Polish, so, we have basically a huge spectrum from solid Cuckoo to Barred Gold Laced. With that in mind you can create a cold identical to Golden Cuckoo Marans, and you can great a barred gold laced, or even a barred gold spangled sort of color, but, you can't get very close to a true Crele (brown female w/barring, male with colored secondary feathers but black breast) without introducing Duckwing or Partridge.

So, what are the breeders out there looking for? Also, I've seen from non-bearded to partially bearded to fully bearded, any pref there?

I do find it interesting how there's far more info on Tolbunts than Creles. But, Tolbunts at least to me are a generally straight-forward color. And they're all bearded.
