I have to talk POLISH!

I am new to polish chickens so I am reading this thread with great interest and i read the other as well.... I have a flock of 7 buff orpingtons and 3 barred rocks... (the rocks may go if they don't shape up and stop picking on the others) and I will hopefully add these three polish girls. I had four but lost one of the babies on tuesday. These three look pretty robust so I am hopeful that they will survive and be a nice addition to the gang.

I will continue to read this as they grow so I can learn what I need to know about them so I can keep them healthy and happy.

I just schmear it on , I was using a small paint brush. I find I had to redo it every 2 days. It does wear off and does no harm. You just have to put up with an icky looking crest for a while.

thanks so much ... this is so helpful... I bought the tar but havent figured out how to use it.... I appreciate it.... and knowing that it wears off is great

I have a question I just can't remember. It is still fairly cold here in NH and it gets to be 40-45 here at the moment. I have the three polish babies upstairs in the guest room where they will stay for a while until I feel they are old enough to get outside. My question is how long would you leave them under the heat light??? a couple weeks?? a month??? I just can't remember how long we need to use the heat lamp for. My last batch of chicks were summer chicks so it was warmer here so I would love a reminder of the time frames necessary if you don't mind
thanks

Here is Goldie Hen - she's is 4 weeks old this weekend and her first time out to play. She's a little skittish, but seemed happy to hang out with my daughter today :)
