Here is on of my poor quality Crele's. It's ok, I've come to terms with it. A little boy, 4 wks old. He can be a pet.

my two little polish peeps and their adoptive mom. Hatched from crele laced eggs from juststruttin. Can't wait to see how they look as they feather out. I think they are pullets.

Those are good looking bumps. I'd say they are pullets too. Of course they say the better the genes the harder it is to tell.

I think the lady that I got my Crele from is more about quantity than quality The rooster that I sold is still nearby, I can use him to maybe try to improve them. He's not laced.

I didn't hatch these chicks tho. I bought them from a lady that raises a massive amount of birds (Polish chickens, turkeys, quail, pheasants) I saw the parents- they looked ok.

I thought for sure this chick was going to be a girl from what i had heard about the head bumps but it turned out to be a roo . so i don't think that is a reliable way to sex them.

Was that a hatchery chick or a breeder? I've heard the higher quality the chick the less you can tell until they are old enough to show their "true colors", so to speak.
But my hatchery ones, I had two (hatchery quality) that had very little bump (and different shape) and I'm pretty sure they are roos. It's still too early to tell for sure though. I'll post later if they turn out to be pullets.

I don't think it's reliable even with hatchery stock. When I picked up my lot from the feed store I took the only 7 they had. Only one had a large, rounded skull and everyone else had either nothing at all or a tiny one. Three or so of the no-bumps turned into pullets and my rounded bumped turned into a pullet. The others are roosters, but you couldn't tell from head shape at all. I have a new brood coming into age now and I chose all round, well-vaulted heads. We'll see what I get.

No it doesn't make a difference. If you have chicks from good stock the crest bumps will be big even if they r boys.
