Thanks you Too bad she has smudging in her tail. I show Silkies- but haven't tried Polish, yet. Hard for me to get them right!

Here's a question for you guys- If I let my silver laced roo mate with my hen (she is black with white on top not sure the name but she is also polish) what will the babies look like? Will they be official mutts?

I am new to chickens & have not yet starting breeding, but its my understanding that black is dominant so they would probably look more like mama. You have a white crested black hen. Their chicks would be called polish crosses. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...please. I'm learning too.

I would say some of the chicks will have lacing, but non as nice as the Roo.

They won't be crosses. They will be Polish. A cross breed is from two different breeds of chickens. If you breed Polish to Polish, regardless of the color, you get Polish. You may have a color that isn't recognized by a traditional name and it may be a muddy or smudgy color, but you've still got Polish

Okay thanks guys! I was hoping I would get a silver laced chick but my hen is beautiful also!! How are polish hens with going broody and raising chicks??

My hen was quarantined with 2 silkie babies before I introduced them to the flock. They would run under her and she would let them. When I introduced them she was super protective of them. She acted like they were hers and even now if they squeak for her she runs after any hen next to them-LOL it is funny. I thought it was great that she just took over as mommy to them. That being said-I plan on getting 5 more babies tomorrow-will she do the same for them?

How old are the Silkie chicks? I would take the pullets with the best lacing and breed them back to your Silver Laced roo.
