I have to talk POLISH!

I love my polish, they aren't great layers but if you have several hens should get couple eggs everyday. they are not know to be setters but every bird is different, have had broodies out of breeds that weren't supposed to be setters. they do need a secure place to roam if you let them out-they have very large crest so vision is impaired. they can be flighty so need to make sure they stay secured, not know for wanting to be a lap pet BUT all mine are. my daughter makes sure every single bird on our property is spoiled rotten!

they can be able to be penned with other birds BUT if you are mixing them in as adults be ready for them to possibly get there crest and tails plucked. they are quite whimpy so they will be picked on if not careful. I have mixed them in with my other fowl which at first didn't go well but they learned to exist BUT now I have all my polish separate in their own pen. they are my favorite out of everything I have-roosters are just gorgeous! they can be very sweet and wonderful yard art.

LOL- I thought they were not setters, either. But, out of my 6 hens, I wasn't getting eggs anymore. Then, I found this HUGE clutch of eggs that they had been hiding, and taking turns sitting on! -Pam

Goood heavens Pam where did you find that big of a nest? How many ghirls do you have laying? Gaga is 10 months old and still hasn't started laying. She and Cher are in withvthe bantam and Einstein the roo is in barn when they start laying I will seperate them into their own coop. That is when we get a weekend with no rain... So DH can build the coops.

I've since sold that group of girls (wish I didn't sell the buffs). In the corner of the house, I had some feed bags. This was when they lived in the old building, instead of the red building that I have now. Anyway, they laid the eggs under the feed bags, instead of where they usually did where I could see them. I thought there was something wrong, because I wasn't seeing any eggs!

BuckandBark What a lovely clutch ! Are the eggs going to be placed in an incubator ? After seeing all those eggs I want MORE Polish Hens.

yea I've found a clutch of eggs like that from my mixed layers last summer. thought the same thing...***-udge is up NO EGGS! well they had me fooled...found about 4 dz after 5 days...It was in the summer so I didn't want to eat them so some I set and the others I cooked for the girls. I have had 2 hens going on 2 yrs now the others are just getting ready to be 1.

I never know who will go broody again in my pens...the breeds that aren't supposed to be broody go broody all the time...then the ones that are never go. I just finally gave up...I have enough in each pen now that it doesn't hurt me to much for one or two to be broodies. I am so hoping my other hens get with the laying game soon.

we plan on having a bunch of these wonderful birds! we want a few of every color! we love all of our wonderful biddies

I suspect I have hens laying in the bramble woods. I haven't gotten eggs from my layer flock in a few months. They also molted, but I feel I should be getting eggs by now.

I wish that I did. I didn't know how old they were when I found them. I candled them, but none were fertile. I don't have any of those Polish anymore. My newer ones have just started breeding. I have 4, but don't have a color match for my cockerel (Buff Laced).

I had to up their protein intake considerably...mine hadn't laid for quite awhile. I lost one of our roos-then put a light out in the coop and up'd the protein. so now the last 4 days I've gotten nearly 40 eggs. our biddies are just laying like crazy--im so excited! they finally can help with the feed bill...I am just relieved that they are ok. I was starting to get really worried!
