I have to talk POLISH!

Cutie I would bid but I promised I'd stay out of trouble lol. I'm never good during chick season lol.

Anyways, got a few shots of our newest arrivals, our neighbors are moving sadly so we've taken in their 2 Polish pullets. I adore both of them especially the SL she has an adorable crest with many backwards feathers. I won't be breeding them because of a few unwanted traits in selling chicks/eggs but definitly going to be keepers. The buff is actually better than I would have expected for a hatchery chick so I was very surprised about that. They are both bantams (My favorites, although I'll have to seperate them for awhile)

Anyway here is Oreo and Jacky

That's SO funny, they look like an Oreo and Jacky! Very pretty girls.

I thought I responded to this but I had two major back surgeries last week and on lots of pain meds so I guess I didn't post it! :D

Anyway, I've only had one Polish prior to buying my current flock from a breeder and they're only about 9 months so no ones gone broody. But here's my plan.....I've noticed that every few weeks they'll lay in a different nesting box. It's in the lower boxes and they seem to hang there but since I'm collecting eggs they eventually just go back to the other box. So I'm thinking the next time I'll just leave those eggs and see if one of them goes broody.

My backup plan is hoping one of my EE's go broody and I sneak in some Polish! I also gave some eggs to SunnyDawn in NV and they're in lockdown and should start hatching tomorrow! I think 30 made it to lockdown, 11 Polish! But I really want one of my Polish to do it though.

Anyone else? Does a consistant layer mean you could get a broody? All four of mine rarely miss a day and I've heard that Polish aren't good layers.

Hello BIG DANNY'S MOM. I do not equate a consistent layer with being broody hens. Why ? Broody hens brood but do not lay.

I so wish I had a broody bird ! At least I think that I do. It seems that it would be fun to watch a mom take care of her chicks..\\\\ But the Polish Breed do not have the reputation that they are a broody breed so who does and did hatch and rear their babies ? This is a historic question and I do not expect an answer.

Yes I sure do ;) I'll post them later when I get back from work.

BD - Not sure actually :/ I hope thats what it means I'll be so joyful ^^ And maybe you did and I'm just not paying attention haha!

I had 2 Polish go broody one year. I don't know how long they would stay that way tho. Then I have another Polish girl who does her broody thing every year. She growls. I think she goes about 3-4 weeks, then I get fed up and put her out.

Oreo and Jacky are real cute!
