What I'd do is check her over, see if anything is wrong or out of the ordinary, separate her, give her vitamins and minerals whatever you got (even scrambled eggs, or yogurt, or dissolved Vitamin C) And make sure her solitary place is comfortable and safe.


How's her crop? Full? Watery? Hard/lumpy? Empty?

How old is she? Has she started laying? Check her vent to see if it's pulsing...if so she could be egg bound. Has she been wormed/ check for lice or mites. Some of the things that can cause this and good things to check out first.

ok, I got a few pics of my little 3.5 week old polish chick today. I will post the growth pics tomorrow, since I always take those on Sunday. Anyways, we put all the chickens in the coop today for the first time. They were hilarious, running and flapping and kicking up dirt. We are still bringing them back inside when we come in. But here are 2 of the 3 siblings.

This one, is going thru an "awkward" stage, you think?? This is the little one that was born about 12 hrs earlier than the other 2, but is SOOO much bigger. I kinda wonder if it will be a roo. I will have the side-by-side pics tomorrow.



This is the smallest one, she was so tired, she just fell face first into the sand. Kinda pitiful. She is the one with the crooked middle (forward-pointing) toe.

The Polish Breeders club has pics. They don't have info like the standard for them though, because you need to purchase the Standard of Perfection for that.

If you want to know how your Polish stands with the standard though, you can ask around and someone will answer.

Well my question now is , barring his faults due to mismanagement, is he a typical hatchery grade polish or something possibly better? The answer will mainly help me decide what sort of hens to get for him. Although I am always for improvement.

I actually don't know hatchery WCB males enough to say, really. I've seen some pretty nice hens, a few of mine included, and I've also seen some pretty sad looking hens and roosters. But, to the standard, far as I know, yours isn't that bad. His comb is waaay too big, and his crest could use some more volume although you've mentioned the plucking/pecking, the other main thing would be his weight in question, as from my experience, most hatchery Polish are underweight. (naturally, not diet-wise) His earlobes should be solid white, too. And the crest could use some more white, but, that's often a difficult thing even in show stock.

I'd say if you want good girls for him, be very picky and choosy. If you want to get them from a hatchery, let plenty grow up and choose only the best. Make sure to avoid tails too compact or pinched, and avoid too much black in the crest or not enough crest volume.

Well my polish chickens have a new friend lol it is a BO lol. She keeps flaying back and froth to her coop and there's. She wants to be with them while they are in there run all day until I put them all away at night. I think she doesn't want to be by her rooster lol. Has anyone ever heard about something that strange? So She is my only hen that is going to lay eggs any day right now because I sold all the rest of her friends. I bought her a hen that lays egg's for her today from amish guy. The hen is a bantam brown hen very pretty. So when I introduced her to my BO she was pecking that new hen and flew back over to the polish chickens. I have all my polish together pullets and roo's. Maybe tomorrow she will want to stay in her own coop and run. I spent the day with my mom today and picked up my 2 chicken I bought last week. They are a white pullet frizzle and has feathered feet and red frizzle feathered feet roo. They are very pretty was going to put with polish but Nikki the BO flew over and was not nice to them at all wouldn't stop pecking them so put them in the baby coop and they where happy and all getting alone. awhhh I will have to see if it works out better in the morning with that silly BO Nikki. Have lots to do over this weekend and get to go to Post Office to ship out my jar's of jam to a great person on BYC in exchange for some wonderful eggs I am getting. I can't wait to get them he is shipping them out on Monday also so I should be getting them on Tuesday!!!!!! I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend what is left of it. My little girl (my 3year old daughter) is starting to feel better. She has been sick with a flu bug. I took some pictures and will have to post them soon.

Thanks for the input. I have read that in order to reduce the comb you look for hens with no wattle? I think he is of a good weight. When you pick him up his breast is full and wide.

As you can see in this pic the back of his crest is plucked badly. Not to mention the bugs reducing the overall volume.


In this one you can see that his breast is fairly wide. But yes the comb is big and this left earlobe (right on solid white) has alot of red. Once he is bug free and moulted I will get some more pics so we can see his progress. But it sounds like I at least have a good start.

That is really halarious. Our two Golden Laced Polish do the same thing!
