In the Brooder
the one on the left is the one im concerned about. Grace was pecked as a baby and has healed since, but the new feathers are still a bit small. Grace use to be very calm and quiet, which is why I named her grace. but NOW she squawks loudly for 5-10 minutes if I'm not in the room with her (it use to be up to 30 minutes with a few breaths in between). At first I felt bad for her. I thought she was simply too cold, or scared of the dark, or hungry but after giving her a night light, DOUBLE and TRIPPLE checking the temp ( she wasn't right under the light or far away), I had realized that ONLY grace would do this. Chica would and still does chirp and sing but you can't really hear her unless you are right by her bedroom.
*I should probably mention that these are inside birds which I intend on keeping as indoor birds mainly because of where I live.*
they both get plenty of outdoor time now that the weather permits it. Grace, silly thing, will sun bathe for maybe 2 minutes then wants to go right back inside. If she hears birds that sound similar to her squawking she'll get extremely loud and start walking in circles as if she is trying to communicate and rescue a chick in distress. She has since calmed down to where she only squawks during the day, but I don't want to end up with a fine for having a rooster within 'city limits' which is literally one street away from a large farm. worst case, I'll give grace to them (they sale eggs so I wouldn't have to worry about them killing grace).
I'm trying to think if there's any other info that might help.. OH,
GRACE has a mirror, a set of balls with bells in them that hang from her brooder and a stuffed chick to keep her busy, plus I put her food in the bedding to also keep her busy and encourage foraging. I have a large space that I live in, but no back yard, but they do have their own rooms and eventually will have the dining room (since we don't eat in there) for their 2-3 story coop with a run on the bottom that has fake grass for the floor.
in the summer it can get to 112+ degrees and right now it's in the mid 80's so I don't see them being inside as an issue, plus I clean their area every day while they are outside with my daughter. (they like to sun bathe on that black mat that's in the picture).
yeah, I think that's about it. sorry for rambling. I just wanted to make sure I put as much information on here as possible.
