I'm so so sorry for your loss. How horrible for your little boy too. I didn't realize that the drawings in another thread are yours. They are beautiful. Do you think it would be possible to draw one of my chickens from a photo? I would love to have a sketch of one..or more of my chickens. I'm thinkiing I would like to be able to scan it and print it on personal note cards. That would be cool! How about I give you a few days to think about it and then either PM me--or I'll PM you. I hope both you and your family continue to feel better.

In regards to you drawings, I think you show lots of potential. I am a self taught artist that is now back at school at the Art Institute pursuing my degree in Graphic Design. Good luck and I hope you can find time to hone your art skills. Your work clearly shows your love of graphite and chickens. They are my favorites too, although I am becoming much better at digital art now. My avatar was a small piece I did for an Illustration class. It is a vector drawing done totally in Adobe's Illustrator.

I lost my only Wheaten pullets a couple of months ago. I'm raising my 4 (5 on New Years Eve) year old grand daughter and I'm pretty sure her and the kids next door decided to pet the chickens and left the run open. She's pretty good about not touching them, but her little friend has to touch EVERYTHING! Anyway I have my roo, but no girls for him yet.

I can say after losing mine the kids don't touch my coops any more. They do ask over and over, but they've pretty much stayed away. This roo and pullet were practically my husband's, so it really hurt to lose her, sine he wasn't a chicken person. Yet!

I've had some bad hatches lately, but I'm hoping some of my girls will start laying again soon and then I'm piling everything into the bators. If I can get some to you, I'd be happy to help if only a little.

How is your boy tonight? And I hope he keeps the responsibility of closing the coop. I am sure he will not make the same mistake twice and being able to continue with that duty may help him.

Don't let yourself be hurt by people who don't understand that children learn responsibility by having responsibilities. The modern concept of childhood is a recent development. Through most of human history the norm has been for youth to have responsibilities commensurate with their age. It's only recently that we've decided that 9 year olds are unable to do much other than play video games, and perhaps put their toys away, or at most, put their supper dishes in the dishwasher.

Your children are fortunate to have parents who expect them to contribute more.

I think you are going to be overrun with requests for sketches, but I would love one done of some of my chickens. How long does it take you to do a sketch? Have you thought about putting your pictures on ebay? Could be nice income for you!
