I know this is probably going to sound dumb as a box of rocks, but here goes:

What part of the egg does the hen lay first? The more pointed end or the rounded end? Sorry, but enquiring minds want to know.

Hey! That's a terrific question! I don't know for sure, but I'd guess the blunt end comes out first. It's soft when it comes out, so it would make sense that the pointy end has the least pressure against it so it would be tapered as it leaves the vent.

I would have thought the big end came first, then tapered off. I only say that from my experience with poo, but I know eggs are totally different.

i'm guessing pointy end first. more aerodynamic that way. you could probably check the orientation on how egg is laying in nest as to which way hen is facing. sine they are sitting down, the eggs should come out and land the same way. if she stands, it might flip over.

Big end comes out first. That would explain the weird clucking my girls make just before they lay. Can you imagine giving birth every 25 hours? I'd consider a bullet to the head first.
