My chicks started attempting to 'dust bathe' in the carpeting at 8 days old! We call it the carpet shuffle. There must be something about the texture of the carpet that they enjoy when we take them out!
As soon as I placed my new girls in their kiddie pool brooder, one of them proceeded to dig down and bury herself and flip shaving everywhere. So funny! I said she looked like she was digging to China and she's been "China Girl" ever since.
I just moved my chicks to the coop yesterday, I was planning on using clean wood stove ash, (dustbathing) will they just know what to do when I put it in the coop with them?
I'm glad I read about dust bathing before I saw it for the first time. My heart would have stopped! Only Ms. Frizzle does it, but she just LOVES it.
I'm also glad I'd read/seen pictures of sunbathing too. Saturday my BR fell to the ground and didn't move. A moment later, 2 BOs did the same. They didn't move for a few minutes. Then they jumped up and continued running around.
