I wish you the best of luck with the effort to keep the ducks. I live in a neighborhood that has covenants against anything other than a dog or cat. Knowing this, I chose to get ducks anyway. I only have 2, and consulted my immediate neighbors about it, asking if they were opposed to it, and if they are ever a bother, let me know. I lucked out with 2 very nice neighbors that have partially adopted my 2. I know, though, that if there is a serious complaint, I will have to change things.
Does your daughter have a few favorites? Maybe thin the flock down to those. This would keep the noise and smell down. It would show that you respect the neighbors feelings. Then go visit. Do you have a relationship with your neighbors? They do have a right to complain, but so many things get settled when people can sit down with one another and talk it out. If I were you, I'd bring freshly baked cookies and good quality whiskey. Nothing says peace offering like cookies and booze! Good Luck!
