I was not given any directions, just "let me know what would be a good time to call" it was NOT a good time to call when I didn't have a voice and I didn't yet know when one would be so I waited until I knew I could talk. That felt like the most responsible thing to do.

It was NOT a specific "call me at 2:00" type thing. Believe me, I thought about HOW I was possibly even gonna be able to talk to that lady all weekend long. I seriously COULD NOT talk.

I always dress up when I go out to apply.
I showed up 15 minutes early.
I called 2 days after the interview.

Now I'm just

mad because I had to get sick at the worst possible time and I just feel like it was out of my control. I tried. What am I supposed to learn from this - don't get sick???? Call people and try to make a good impression while you can barely talk and you're hacking up mucus?

As if being sick for 4 days wasn't already bad enough

My advice was overall advice for seeking a job - I didn't say it applied to you or this incident. My example of being given a time to call does apply. She sent an e-mail asking what would be a good time to call you and you did not respond. Your excuse is because you had a cold and apparently you didn't respond for at least another couple of days because she had to call you on Tuesday. A simple e-mail response like "the best time to call would be ________" was what she was looking for.

But, I think most of us that have tried to help you can see where the real problem lies so I'll simply say "Good luck".

I am not sure if it was mentioned but send a thank you letter after the interview. For taking their time to meet with you and etc. It helped my SIL get her job they even told her it was because of the letter! When I was graduating college we did a resume/interview class and they suggested it also.

The email was never mentioned and I didn't bring it up.

I actually thought that she assumed I never received it.

Lots of people apply for jobs online by using the unemployment office or the library because they can't afford a computer or internet at home, so it's very possible that they can't check their email every day. Do hiring people even consider that?? Or is it really "you didn't respond the day after I emailed you and I don't give a dang why so you don't get a chance"
That's pretty harsh for a minimum wage paying high school diploma type job, dontcha think? It's not like we're talking about a professional type job.

That's a bad assumption on your part. Most business email systems allow the sender to be notified when something happens to their email on the receiver's end. For instance, it was read but not replied to, or it was sent to the trashcan without being read. That's how we figured out who wasn't reading their email at all, and who was blowing us off.

Then I ask again, if you had already decided not to hire me, the WHY do an interview and "pretend" like you're interested??
Being unemployed is hard enough without being teased.

It really doesn't matter anyway. I quit applying for jobs over 2 weeks ago, which is why I was kinda surprised to hear from this one and really shocked that after 2 weeks, waiting 2 days was "too long" to reply, but whatever. It doesn't matter.
I used to be of the motto that "if I didn't apply I for sure won't get the job" but now I have decided it's not worth my time and effort. I can jump through the hoops, dress up, call, email, write letters, argue with fax machines, and all for what?
I'm done with all that.

#1California Chick :

Boy, you give up REAL easy!!!

How do YOU know?

I'm trying to get back into school in the fall, maybe I'll have better luck after that?
