I just finished reading an article about obesity in the UK, 6-9 year olds having strokes ect. We all know this is a major issue in the developing world, no country is immune to this disease. China is also starting to have obesity problems and the more it develops the fatter people get. It is no longer solely a US problem, it is a WORLD problem.

So, anyways I came up with a great idea that could really be a game changer in this fight on obesity. This is not a new idea mind you, it is a very old idea and is currently being used in many places already. I think people in general could GREATLY benefit from micro gardens and community plots. With a little bit of effort a small home garden can be beneficial in 3 ways, exercise, food expenses and nutrition.

You can garden just about anywhere these days with new gardening techniques and a little effort. I challenge you to cut one hour long show, American Idle, Dancing with the Stars, House, and use that time for a garden. It costs very little and you will be extremely proud of yourself when your fresh, pesticide-free produce is on the table ready to eat.

It's time to get back to the basics people.
Our past is the key to a brighter future.

I am trying the no til method with deep compost made mostly from hay we grow on the property. I will be buying some in rolls though because our mower deck just snapped in half.

I'm using organic fertilizer, chicken poop mostly, and have started raising red wigglers and black soldier fly larvae. I'm working on a HubPage dedicated to permaculture on our property and can't wait to publish it.

I have raked and spread over six inches on hay on my part of the garden. Its hard work but soooo worth it to be pesticide and other junk free!

We used straw in our small strawberry garden and it has worked great to keep out the weeds! It's also helped to hide the strawberries a bit so the birds and small animals don't go after the fruits.

Where did you find seeds to grow that dog?

I could not agree more. I started gardening a few years ago and I absolutely love it. In fact my kids and I are going to go sow some more seeds this afternoon for fall crops.
