I just had to call the cops!

First off I would have been on the front porch with the shotgun aimed at him begging him to fire his weapon. Second I would like to say that both dh and myself are deer hunters but we have good sense and that kind of crap scares the bejesus out of me. You need to get in touch with the local Wildlife Fisheries and Parks people in your area, they are the ones who could do something. If you know who it was and can give details I would file a report as well with whomever I had to. Some people are idiots and I don't know what it is about shooting a deer that REALLY brings out the stupid in some people.

Yeah I have a couple of them. This guy came through the woods though. I reckon I have to put some out in the woods now too.

You have to be careful. I was reading a story on this horse website and there was a memorial for a fellow member. During hunting season she was walking out to fee her horse. In the woods behind her there was a hunter. He took a shot at the deer and miss and ended up hitting the girl. He was arrested because he was on private land and to close to the house. I dont know if anyone remembers this story but someone posted it on the BYC ezboard forum

Southern, I felt really bad when I first read this post. I would have been really mad, too!

We have our land posted, but still keep pets, livestock and ourselves close to the house during deer season, especially the weekends. There are a lot of untrained people with no common sense carrying guns. Wisconsin is marketed as a recreational state, for out of state tourists. Some of those people have more money than sense. Skilled hunters, no problem. They aren't the ones that shoot cows or other people.

Yes, you have to be really careful. There are so many idiots out there (read - inexperienced dolts, not the serious hunters). When I was 16, I was out riding on our property when, lo and behold, there was some guy siting in on one of our cows - a big ole black angus! The guy was really focused, because he didn't hear me ride up and when I yelled at him he looked up (he was lying down) and there was this big black, snorting horse (it was really cold, so there was steam coming from his nostrils) glaring down at him. I ripped him a new one and followed him out to the gate and made sure he got in his truck and left. It was rather funny, the expression on his face, when he looked up! Whenever I think about it I get angry again, but get a good laugh, too!
