I know this might be a stupid question but I would like to know if every time the rooster mounts the hen is he having sex or is it just a conquering thing or both?

I have been told both. That they will try and try till one lets him have her. Ours does both to the new pullets we have. It seems cruel because they are so little but he doesn't seem to be hurting them
