I am sorry but I need to get this off my chest. I do not mean to insult anybody and I realized that some people do not know any better but I annoys me so much how people get EEs and Ameraucanas mixed up. I do amidt that I used to be one of those people but I just get so annoyed by it. A lot of people see all of these post and everything but they just do not see the difference. I am sorry if I offended anybody but I needed to get that off my chest. Please do not think any less of me because of this thread but I just can't hold it in anymore.
Thanks,
M To The Maxx

They're Dominiques and Orpingtons!

Well, I'm a total noob and I'll be the first to admit that I don't see the differences in quite a few different breeds.

Maybe if they were pointed out... like with lines and circles (like those spot the differences pictures) then maybe.

But quite a few look very similar.

It's easy enough to tell a bright yellow leg from a grey/green one, I've got that one.

But I'm still boggled by all the different feather types... if someone has linkage to a very basic for noobs chart I'd love to see it!

Also, I can research all I want online/books, but when you have the birds there in front of you it is different.
Pictures just are not going to be the same as experience.

Not excusing anyone or anything, just saying there are a lot of details involved and it can take trained eyes to spot them.

I can also relate, drives me nuts that some people can't tell the difference between powdered potatoes and home made.
"REALLY, you can't tell?! After years of trying, or even having them side by side?"
ARGH! Drives me nuts... so I totally feel your frustration, even if my example is kind of lame in comparison.

Well, you could view this as a chance to educate people...

Everyone has to learn from somewhere.

Isn't that why we're here?

Peace!

Well, first, there is misinformation from the hatcheries. Feed stores and other places that sell their chicks pass on this misinformation. I even saw EE's being exhibited at a fair this summer and their cage cards said (and I quote) "Americana."

Second, I've been told that anything that is not one of the seven "recognized" colors is an EE. Then people come on here and listen to others talk about their "splash Ameraucanas" and "lavender Ameraucanas" for example - well, splash and lavender are not recognized colors, so why are they considered Ameraucanas and not EE's? (I'm not really asking that question, just sayin'...)

Its no wonder people are confused about this breed!!! And remember, we all had to start somewhere.

In their defense, I think the problem stems from Hatcheries calling there EEs Amaraucanas or Auracanas.
Unless you are into poultry and genetics you don't really know the difference.
And remember when you didn't know better? Didn't you appreciate being given a little slack? I know I did! Relax and educate them, and let this be fun for everyone.

Same note though, when I run across someone who DOES know better, but continues to pass on misinformation for their own benefit.... watch out! Like the clerks in pet stores who tell prospective Cavy parents that pellets are all the food they'll ever need... or the ones that say that a Lab will be fine being cooped up in an apartment all day, no yard, no walks, no nothing. Oh or how about the ones that sell hermit crabs out of an open topped tank, when they need humidity to live... but if you told the TRUTH then you wouldn't sell as many so you have to fudge just a little.

Slack for newbies, along with links/booklist to further their education...

A good SMACK upside the head for peeps purposely hurting animals by passing misinformation.

That's fair right?
