Actually she said "reaching down in a rage" or something to that effect. It makes no sense to me when folks get angry at animals for doing what animals do. It only got in because the OP didn't shut her pen early enough. I would be mad at myself, not the owl. And as for defending your flock against a protected bird, you should do the minimum required to eliminate the threat. Owls are very easy to startle/frighten away. Next time just scare it without striking it, it will move on.
