I just rescued a baby trout or bass, Anyone with fish experience?

he wasn't fetched, he was barked at

and the more I look at the spot where he was the more I think he just jumped out of the water under the house, which would probably kill him now because I couldn't wait any longer to do laundry. He's doing well in the cold water he's in, but I'm sure you're right about the delicacy. Like I said though, I'm not sure what it is if not a trout then. And hubby doesn't wanna have anymore fish, I finally got a hold of him on the phone, so I'm going to let it go as soon as everything goes back to normal. He wanted me to feed it to the chickens lol he said "why are we rescuing fish? We're supposed to be eating them"

I just don't feel right about giving the little guy to the birds who will play football and then tug o war with him lol

Since you said your yard flooded, are you closest to a lake/pond or a creek? A trout most likely wouldn't come from a pond, its more a creek/stream type fish. Could be a hornyhead. (chub)

Looks like a very young "Large Mouth Bass" to this old fishin' guide's son... It's really hard to tell from the pics, but I think that I see a very distinct, dark lateral line down the length of the fish, and the rounded tail is common to young fry bass. That's my guess...

Bass ned at least a 55 gallon tank at that age. More as they grow. You wil need other 10 gallons to grow out feeder fish.

Edited to add people have kept bass in there houses many times with success and i believe you can too But its going to cost you alot to get started. After that it should be cheep. Whatch oout though he is in such a little tank right now the ammonia is spiking right now. Have to move him to a 55 gallon soon (unstressfully of course)

it looks a lot like a young largemouth bass, colorwise and the shape of the head in the bottom picture. but it looks more like a trout in the other pictures. all i have down here in the south is largemouth bass, so no trout to compare. i'm thinking maybe its a smallmouth bass?

Well I guess my area is considered the south lol I'm in NC been raised between here CA and LA..Maybe that's why people don't understand me, except for here lol.. my old friends still in cali are still tripping out about how much worse my accent has gotten since I've been back down south, southern coastal nc anyway lol I guess I hang out with too many red necks because I haven't noticed it. But anyways, I'm going to release the fish tomorrow in my friend's lake..I just hope it survives with all the bass in there, if not then I suppose it was meant to be, right?

Can't tell by your pic but it looks like a horny head to me. If it is he wont get too big. I catch them out of the creek specifically for the chickens all the time. They do pretty well at keeping the creek populated.

that doesn't look like him though...the face is wrong, the middle stripe is too thick, there aren't smaller stripes and white speckles and the black spot is on the fin not on the fleshy tail part before the fin and it has a reddish color on the base of all the fins and the belly, can't be a chub, but kinda close in looks...I've been looking all day/night, STILL can't find one that looks like him
